Our second beer is Knight of the Garter, launched on June 14th to coincide with the Ceremony of the Garter at Windsor Castle. It is a straw-coloured Golden Ale (3.8% ABV) easy summer drinking with a distinctive fresh citrus hop aroma. As with Guardsman, it is brewed with premium Maris Otter pale malt from a traditional floor sweeping. Again we are using whole leaf hops – English Pilgrim in the copper and a blend in the hopback, including American Amarillo with their gorgeous orangey aroma.

HogTownHarry (7062) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, - AUG 23, 2011
August 12, 2011 - cask at The Harp (Chados Place). Bright clear refractive amber-tinged gold with a large, lasting and creamy off-white head. Intensely bitter floral aroma, some heather, very very light grain, no alcohol. Taste is, if anything, more one-dimensional - incredibly floral and bitter, not much else. Chewy mouthfeel, slightly light of body, decent cask carbonation, has a very long dry floral/grassy astringent finish.

Cimbasso (930) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2017
Sampled from a bottle from Waitrose. Pours a clear golden colour with a thin, white head. Good malty aroma. Also a good malt flavour with an orange citrus hop taste and a pleasing bitterness. Very well-blended and easy to drink, with a surprisingly full mouthfeel for a 3.8% beer. Very good.

gnoff (10713) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUN 17, 2017
Cask ½ pint at Crispin, Wokingham, on June 14, 2017.
Hoppy, fruity, herbal, bitter taste. Bitter, resin aftertaste. Smooth full, low CO2, mouthfeel. Medium high a bit sharp bitterness. Clear golden color, small off-white head since as per usual here filled to the brim of the glass, but plenty of nice lacing left on the glass. Herbal hoppy scent, sort of laid back.
Got the feeling I was rather done with this after a ½ pint, didn’t crave another.

Draught (Tapping the Admiral, London) (6+:3+:7:4:14=3.4++)
Simple malty aroma, says "beer" to me - ahhh, that’s me with a smile on my face. Utterly lovely malty taste, with perfectly balanced wooly bitterness - lovely, but quite mellow, tingly bitter long finish - lip-smackingly good. Massively drinkable. A great English beer, free of gimmicks. Thank you W&E, I knew you wouldn’t let me down.

jmgreenuk (9713) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - AUG 16, 2016
Cask at the Hope and Champion, Beaconsfield. Poured a clear straw colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is woody hop, light citrus. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter with a big hop, light toothpaste, light spicy palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

BlackHaddock (7515) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - AUG 10, 2016
Cask pint in Penderels Oak, High Holborn on 3rd Aug 2016. Clean golden pour, white topping. Decent blend and not citrusy! Floral nose with a hint of caramel, taste had a slight hop lead with the caramel sweetness balancing the bitterness from the hops: nice session ale.
