The second of our series of three Jubilee beers (see Treetops and Canberra) which are inspired by ingredients from around the Commonwealth.
Based on a classic IPA recipe which uses Imperial Malt along with Chinook, Simcoe and Pacific Jade hops. However the additional special ingredients of Jaggery (raw cane sugar from India bought from Southall market), Jasmine Petals, Cardamom and Coriander produce a distinctive twist to this “Indies Pale Ale”.
The resultant beer is a pale, smooth, full IPA with a distinct bitterness and with a hop aroma that is enhanced by a touch of the exotic!
Our beer is named after the original “Kohinoor”, the large diamond at the centre piece of the Coronation Crown used in 1953 and whose history is traced for over 1000 years though we think this beer is a diamond of equal brilliance!

YantarCoast (1515) - Moscow, RUSSIA - MAR 23, 2017
330ml bottle. Pours clear amber with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is caramel, biscuit, jasmine. Taste is piney hops, light caramel, malt, moderate bitterness.

ManVsBeer (10951) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 13, 2016
Bottle @ Railway Bell, New Barnet. Slightly hazed amber-red with a thin bubbly head. Floral, herbal, with the jasmine dominant and providing an aroma not out of place at a Moroccan suk. It’s a little less stated in its taste, but not by much, however it’s enough to allow a palatable texture through.

Mr_Pink_152 (5547) - Lincoln, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2016
Bottle from Pennells, garden center Lincoln. Amber colour with a white head. Aroma pilau rice spice, and fruity. Taste slight cardamom metallic.

Leighton (22307) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 14, 2015
Bottle at home in London - sourced from Beermerchants. Pours clear gold with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma holds bready malts, some herbal hops, spices, pine. Medium sweet flavor with some ripe berry fruits, subtle mint, orange peel, lightly toasted bread, earth, grains, spices. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with further spice character, graham cracker, toasted grains, ripe berries. Novel stuff, but I imagine this beer would be better without the spicing.

evergreen0199 (3492) - Northwood, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 26, 2015
Bottle from Waitrose, Rickmansworth, Herts. An amber/golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, malty, caramel aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, caramel. No world beater but better than the cask offering I’ve had.

berkshirejohn (6655) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2015
33cl bottle from Waitrose, Bracknell. Golden amber with a ring of white head; sweet fruity aroma; taste of muted tropical fruits and jasmine tea; with a lingering herbal bitterness to finish. Crisp and pleasant.

Theydon_Bois (20628) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - APR 1, 2015
Bottle at home, post decorating wind down, 01/04/15. Clear amber golden with a well appointed off white cap. Nose is biscuit malt, caramel, earthy hop, citric peel, trace of soap. Taste comprises light floral notes, jasmine tea, touch of grapefruit, orange peel, earthy hop. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with earthy hop bitterness. Ok number, easy drinking, not sure it’s an IPA style wise - shades of I suppose but only just.

oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - MAR 16, 2015
Bottled. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is sweet malts, grass, some fruity and floral notes along with mild tropical fruits. Flavour is rather similar with also some sweet malts coming through.

GlasgowTAD (1898) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - DEC 13, 2014
Pours brown with virtually no head. This beer seems quite flat overall. Speckly lacing around the glass. Aroma is weak piney hops. Taste is malty sweet and weak hop resin.
