The second of our series of three Jubilee beers (see Treetops and Canberra) which are inspired by ingredients from around the Commonwealth.
Based on a classic IPA recipe which uses Imperial Malt along with Chinook, Simcoe and Pacific Jade hops. However the additional special ingredients of Jaggery (raw cane sugar from India bought from Southall market), Jasmine Petals, Cardamom and Coriander produce a distinctive twist to this “Indies Pale Ale”.
The resultant beer is a pale, smooth, full IPA with a distinct bitterness and with a hop aroma that is enhanced by a touch of the exotic!
Our beer is named after the original “Kohinoor”, the large diamond at the centre piece of the Coronation Crown used in 1953 and whose history is traced for over 1000 years though we think this beer is a diamond of equal brilliance!

Bottle at Chris O’s pre-GBBF shindig 2012. Honey coloured pour with a white head. Orange marmalade and citrus aroma. Ginger and citrus flavour. A bit thin. Bitter fruit finish.

Scopey (15286) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 9, 2012
Bottle at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF tasting. It pours golden yellow, with a thin white head. The nose is sweet malt, sherbet, hay and orange peel. The taste is hay, straw, light malt and citrus pith, with a dry finish. Light body and soft carbonation. Not much going on. Nothing special...

Beersiveknown (5301) - NORTHERN IRELAND - AUG 8, 2012
Bottle at home. Musty marmelade nose, touch of jasmine. Mid-amber with a lacing of tight white head. Soft carbonation and mouthfeel, slight tartness, digestive biscuit malt and dry bitterness in finish.

Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Pours clear dark golden with a moderate sized off-white head. Aroma of tropical fruits. Taste is light sweet, moderate dry and bitter, crisp and fresh fruity juicy. Refreshing with a lingering minty aftertaste. A really good one.

EdKing (2629) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 16, 2012
Clear chestnut brown, white head. Nose is green leafy hops, sugary caramel malt, minerally. Taste is spicy bitter hops, eucalyptus. Of bitter Ipa type rather than American citrousy bitter Ipa. Finish is eucalyptus bitter.

mike_77 (6882) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - JUN 8, 2012
Copper colour. It smells a bit stale mixed with some herbs. Flavour is quite herbal but some toasty malts come through too. The herbal elements of this beer make it unpleasant. Has a really dry finish, too dry.

sic1314 (4775) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - JUN 5, 2012
Average relatively easy drinking golden ale. Floral nose, inoffensive malty flavour.
