Bottle. Pours ruby with medium head, mostly lasting. Very little bitterness; interesting taste with notes of berries and smoke. Smooth, drinks well. Recommended; I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed my drinks bought in Estonia. djoeye (4615) - Tromsø, NORWAY - JUL 30, 2015

Look; fawn head and rose-brown clear body. Aroma; potent dark malts, fruits, leaves, grass. Taste; brown malts, plum, almond, chocolate, raisin, dusty hops, grass, leaves - leading to a soft malty fruity slightly dry finish. Fine texture and soft carbonation. Easy and nice. Among the better baltics. [50cl brown bottle 5.6%abv BB18-08-2015 [email protected] [email protected]

Ruby color. Tanned small head with big bubbles. Lively carbonation. Aroma has roast, dark chocolate and notes of toffee and metal. Flavor has lightly roasted malts, toffee and dark coffee, mouthfeel is a bit on thin side. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. One of the best Viru Õlu products, their many other brews are among the worst in Estonia.
Draught, at this amazingly cozy cafe/pub near Raekoja Plats in Tallinn.
Dark, ruby red color, thick off-white head. Good looking thing, in fact.
Chocolaty, grainy malt aroma.
Almost stoutlike flavor of chocolaty malts. Starts off sweet, ends quite dry.
A delicious, surprisingly full bodied, creamy dunkel!

500 ml bottle. From Estonia (H).
Brownish red colour with thin tan head.
Sweet dried fruits and dark malts aroma. Flavour is more straight forward with sweetness and malts. Some alcohol also present. Proper Estonian Dunkel.

500ml Bottle. Very deep red colour. Not getting much aroma, but the taste is huge. Vegetably bitterness, and full maltiness. Bitterness hangs around quite a long time. Not session material, but a great way to start an evening. raymondwave (931) - FINLAND - APR 23, 2008
Bottle 0.5 l, Tallinn. Deep red, lacy off white/beigish head. Mild nose of roasted malts, cola, syrup, dark berries/wine gum. Somehow appealing. Flavor is mildly roasted, fresh, syrupy with a bit of dark berry wine gums and subtly bitter hops. Close to some north german dunkler bocks, not remarkably sweet. Good and nicely complex, altho quite mild overall. One of the better dunkels. liinis (1773) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAY 9, 2008
Palmse is one of my favorites from Estonia. medium bodied slightly roasted malts and delighful bitterness. small tan head dark brown colour. suurjuust (3566) - ESTONIA - OCT 23, 2010
Dark red ruby color. Small head with staying power. Sweet malty smell with some sugar. Tastes of caramel, coffee, bread, prunes and a hint of dryness. No hint of alcohol, something I wouldn’t expect from a 5,6 ABV beer. I’d reccommend it. MadRobin (2988) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - MAR 12, 2014
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2014 Poured from 500 ml bottle in Pühajärve, Estonia.
Clear, dark cola brown with a small khaki head and fair lacing.
Aroma of brown sugar, sweet malt, caramel, raisins and lingonberries.
Taste of sweet rum, raisins, sweet cherry, caramel, lingonberries, brown sugar, nuts and a bit of earthy hops.
Medium body and low/medium carbonization.
This is a sweet dunkel--as are most Estonian tumes. But the fruitiness and mild hop finish add a nice complexity. It’s still a bit sweet for my taste, but it’s interesting and certainly a welcome change. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
