I love the label. Somewhat classically British real ale in its approach. From the bottle just on cool. An unexcited pour needed just a little rousing. Sloppy, dollop of white sets atop an orange copper body that is just shy of bright and filled with streams of very fine carbonation. Aroma holds hints of damp herbs, Anzac biscuits, pine needles, dried bamboo, honeydew and cantaloupe. Somewhat dull by comparison in the mouth. The hops are overly piney and there is a bitter hop and malt clinch just on the swallow - this character sticks around the most. Buttery and yeasty across the mid-palate with a light hint of toasted grain. Not much esters show. Mouthfeel is soft to soapy in texture with a medium light body. Average afternoon quaffer. 1 finger off-white head. Clear, deep amber coloured beer. Aroma is caramel maltiness, iron and dried fruits with overripe mango and blood orange at the back. Taste is simpler, with just a big bitterness and iron hitting the mouth at first. Biscuity maltiness comes along with small hints of frutiness after a while and ends with orange peel bitterness. Simple mouthfeel, drinkable but not interesting on the palate. Overall: Not competing with todays APAs by any means, feels very old school. I dont really appreciate that big "iron" note in my Ales. Thats more of a lager thing. Probably works well with spicy food but quite boring and lacks complexity. Works if theres nothing but beers from bullshit macrobreweries to choose from!

Bottle at restaurant in Vsters. I know this beer has been better before but this time it came across distinctly bland, almost like an English ale rather than a pale ale. It was far too bitter. A good accompaniment for food however.

33cl bb2/2017, DDeluxe. - Reintroduces layered fruitcake malt goodness in an APA-inspired British ale. Accents of dried citrus fruit works well with the candy-lush malt body. Dry, piney bitterish finish. The Scandinavian lack of distinctive yeast works in this ales favour, letting the imported hop and local malt goodness shine.

Tolles PaleAle

Nice little PA. Modest and balanced with mild fruity hops and mildly funky bitterness to finish. Very good choice for the excellent Swedish meatballs.
