3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap @ Witch’s Hat: Dark, black; a small, light-tan ring outlines the very top of the beer where it meets the glass. Aroma has an apparent dryness to it (much like a dry stout)... Makes sense for only being 4.5% ABV. Roasted grain & barley, toasted cocoa beans, & an elegant undercurrent of a milk chocolate bar infused with orange zest. Taste is also very much like a dry stout... More roasted barley with a chocolate flavor akin to unsweetened powder. Hint of orange zest in the back; hidden at first, but subtly building in stature over time. Finish is dry, roasted grain, dry cocoa powder, & a hint of orange zest. Unique, tasty.
Tap. Color is black with solid tan head. Aroma of nuts and faint orange. Taste is thin body very roast not getting much orange. Chocolate finish. koleminer20 (3599) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAR 24, 2014
From notes. On tap at Witch’s Hat on March 17. The pour is black with a thin ring of off-white head and a decent amount of lace. The aroma is somewhat bland. There is a decent presence of some fruit, but the little bitterness seems to drown it out. The flavor is a little on the strange side. There is a good bitterness, but some citrusy and orange notes come through and finish strong with a hint of chocolate, maybe. The mouth feel is a bit light and thin. The carbonation is light, but present, and the aftertaste is somewhat like a bitter orange juice.
