On tap at HopCat Ann Arbor on 12/10/16. Pours darkest brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate and roasty. Malty flavor giving way to rich chocolate, licorice and bitter roast before a sweet chocolate finish. arminjewell (9584) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - FEB 24, 2016
Pour on tap at the brewery, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, roast, sweet sugars, anise, some slight spice, coffee notes come in as well. Taste was sweet, dark sugars, molasses, dark fruit, some slight cocoa powder into some slight roast, ash, finishing fairly sweet. crossovert (12666) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 29, 2015

Aroma is nutty, tons of roasted malt, some light chocolate and coffee. Appearance is black, but thin, light brown head. Taste is bitter, roasted malt, some licorice, coffee, cocoa. Mouthfeel is thinner than I?d like, but a good carbonation and flavor hangs. Overall, it?s very bitter but pretty good. Pailhead (6539) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JAN 11, 2015
On tap: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy molasses, moderate chocolate, black licorice, and a touch of espresso. It?s a dark brown with no transparency and a two finger tan head that eventually fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is a thin sheet of lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate-heavy molasses and moderate chocolate. The finish has light-moderate pine, espresso, and anise. It?s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Overall, a little heavy on the molasses for my preferences. Bluegoosed (59) - - JUL 5, 2014
Sweet coffee and toffee up-front then transitions into a dark/deep stout. Fairly strong and alcohol really shows on the back-end. peteinSD (1469) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 5, 2014
Bottle from Sean - thanks! Silky black pour with no head. Chocolate, toffee, and noticeable molasses in the aroma. Taste is rich chocolate and fudge with caramel (literally, candy caramel), molasses, darker plum, and some alcohol burn into the finish. Some hop bitterness as well. Coasting mouthfeel. Semi-rough but nicely done. Good beer. koleminer20 (3469) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - MAR 24, 2014
From notes. On tap at Witch’s Hat on March 17. The pour is black with a dark khaki ring of head and decent lacing. The lace is a little surprising for a beer with such little head. The aroma is a little sweet on the front end. It fades through, and is a little bitter on the back. There is a strong licorice presence with light notes of chocolate, roast, and some coffee. The flavor is is a bit different. It’s got more of a licorice dominance with a booziness that kicks up on the back end. The mouth feel is thick. creamy, with a light carbonation and a good dry and bitter aftertaste.
