Wonderful stuff. Quite bright, but deeply malty. Again, similar to Einbecker but without that classic Einbecker bite. I wish Americans could duplicate this complex pale malt flavor when they attempt to make a Heller Bock. They never seem to be able to do so.

Test vom 2.6.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,14,13,12,14,14 - 13,05

"Wohn’s Heller Bock " Well this one is out there, seems nobody wants to review it though. 500ml brown bottle, my back label is gone, I think it is a Shelton Brothers product but I’ve only seen it on sale once. Pours a light gold but one that is rich and deep, the head is foamy and white and really sticks for awhile, it leaves a bit of lacing. The smell is interesting, the beers of this style always catch me off guard 1 because it isn’t one of my favorite styles and 2 they never seem to have a general samey scent. This one smells like mineral water with herbal hops swimming in it, I don’t know if it is a bad thing or not but it is odd. The taste is sweet, with an odd hoppiness to it, there is a bit of metallic flavor. The bitterness is decent, this is just a strange tasting brew. It is exotic, go for it I say. Bottle: Pours a transparent deep bronze golden with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Has a sweet light caramel malty nose with a touch of light fruity esters and noble hops. Starts with pretty good fullness and sweet lightly toasty maltiness with a touch of doughy yeast and good bittering hop balance before a semi-sweet finish. A true to style and enjoyable heller bock.

Sampled on 6/11/2010. This Heller bock pours a medium orange color from a .5l bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel and sweet with a touch of beady and cereal. A medium bodied heller bock. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are floral and earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice balance. A slight sweet bock, I was expecting a little more sweetness but a nice beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
