COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular. Also Bottle Conditioned.
Originally the house beer for Limes Hotel in Fakenham.
Ingredients: Maris Otter; Crystal malt; Goldings hops.
A full-bodied pale amber beer with the rich flavour of Dundee cake. Sultana fruitiness is balanced by a hoppy bitterness, to give a full, but light feel. The finish continues to develop into a warm, mellow glow

500 ml bottle as “Marks & Spencer Norfolk Bitter” bought at M&S in iSquare, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Clear amber copper colour with a nob of yeast sediments; Half finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Fragrant aroma of Ale malt, with strong caramel, toffee, strong citrus with light grapefruits scent, floral, strong molasses, yeast, lemon peels and light grass; Close to medium sweet taste of fairly light Ale malt, with strong grains, thin grapefruits, caramel, sugar, yeast, strong lemon, quite strong bitter hops and strong grass; Close to light body, Slick palate; Mouth Feel is strong Ale maltyness in a watery background. Very strong citrusy hops mixed and caramel dominates. Grainy taste is slightly annoying, and pretty sweet as well. Very lemony hops to round. Hmmm… Hoppiness is strong citrus, floral, sweetness, lemon peels and light grass in nose. Light grapefruits, strong lemon, and strong fresh grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting, astringent bitter-sweet finish; Quite fry after taste; Fruity sweet and bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one has all sorts of strong tastes pulling in different direction - citrusy hops, sweetness and caramel malts - the result is not cohesive and quite unbalanced. Not that good as a strong Bitter.

500 ml bottle as M&S Norfolk Bitter. (Marks & Spencer) London, England.
Clear amber colour with a small white head. Citrus hops, mild bitter notes and sweetish maltiness in the aroma. The flavour is mild citrus hops, woody dryness, mild sweetness and malt. Not the worst.

Cask at the Alma, Cambridge. Copper brown, a bit of beige head. The pint has a reasonable amount of natural carbonation. Raisin, biscuity aroma: strong tea, malt. Sweet fruity faste with a bitter finish. Tiny hint of sourness at the very end. Good.
