It pours a dark brown yielding a nice one inch white foamy head into my nonic. Some nice spider web yet light foamy lacing speckles the sides of the glass. The smell is spicy having the normal winter spices up front such as nutmeg, allspice and ginger. There is some light brown sugar in the background. The taste is semi-sweet with the previously mentioned flavors and light bitterness coming in through some light hops, mostly balanced. The palate is about a medium, could be ranging closer to heavy, a mostly one and done in a session.. Some light sharpness a bit here and there, nothing obscure. Overall, this is a good winter warmer that I would come back to.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2015 On tap. I was looking forward to this as it was their strongest offering last visit. Reddish-brown in appearance, with a tan head that quickly dissipates. Aromas of spice and malt, itís appealing. Initial flavor is strange with some medicinal taste, but quickly mellows to a smooth, malty and sweet finish. Not bad, but not great. 12oz bottle. Pours a clear, deep auburn color with a creamy, off-white head. Sweet caramel and toffee aromas with a hefty dose of spices. The spices dominate the taste with some sweet malt and then a very faint hop bitterness kicks in at the end. Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is very dry. Dark ruby/cognac color. Faint nose of caramel and baking spices. Robust flavor, moderately spicy, a little sweet. Dry, mildly liquory/hot finish. Quite a bit better than I thought it would be.

Drank on tap at Durgin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
Light but bright brown in color. Two finger width head, good lacing and head retention.
Sweet and slightly spicy aroma.
Sweet and malty taste again with a spicy finish. Good mouthfeel. Fairly drinkable. Iíve had better but I have certainly had worse.

On tap at The Copper Door. Pours a ruby red with a thin white head. Scent of sweet malt and currant, slight booze. Very sweet on the palate, some bitterness at the end. More complexity as it warms up. I didn't get the boozy heat at all. I think the abv is nicely hidden.

Decent...very warming from the abv level but relatively uncomplex given how much you are drinking. Itís english in style so I guess that means flat. Fairly sweet, no hops.
