From a 12 fl. oz (US) bottle with an expiration date of Nov ’08. Pours a beautful reddish-brown with a tan head and significant lacing. Malty aroma and something that almost reminds me of firewood. Not burnt or smoked. Solid mouthfeel. Smooth and dry flavor. I have had many of their brews but this one is topnotch. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - JAN 28, 2013
It pours a dark brown yielding a nice one inch white foamy head into my nonic. Some nice spider web yet light foamy lacing speckles the sides of the glass. The smell is spicy having the normal winter spices up front such as nutmeg, allspice and ginger. There is some light brown sugar in the background. The taste is semi-sweet with the previously mentioned flavors and light bitterness coming in through some light hops, mostly balanced. The palate is about a medium, could be ranging closer to heavy, a mostly one and done in a session.. Some light sharpness a bit here and there, nothing obscure. Overall, this is a good winter warmer that I would come back to. Volgon (2761) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 24, 2003
Murky orange ruby brown color, sweet malt aroma that has a bit a dark fruit. Full bodied, ends sweet with a lingering aftertaste. VALIS (235) - Nashua, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 22, 2013
Dark ruby/cognac color. Faint nose of caramel and baking spices. Robust flavor, moderately spicy, a little sweet. Dry, mildly liquory/hot finish. Quite a bit better than I thought it would be. OldGrowth (3665) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - JAN 21, 2008
Bottle, from trade with 46er3498. Best by 11/08. Good aroma, sweet. Brown sugar, caramel, cardboard, candied fruits, minor spice about it. Clean brownish orange color, real good head, ok lacing. Bitter sweet flavor, like aroma with the emphasis on the sweet parts. Medium body, oily creamy mouthfeel, sweet finish, Tasty. I like it. I guess I’m in the minority with this one. I got a perfect pour on this one. Nice inch thick head that came right up to the top of my Woodstock Inn pint glass.

Pours copper with a white head. Smells of sage, earthm tea, some dark fruit. Tastes spicy and peppery with some earthy hints, caramel and a restrained, fruity finish. Climbrew (28) - - JAN 14, 2012
Nice amber ale dark and flavorful. Slightly hot on the finish but with a clean palette

Drank on tap at Durgin Park in Boston, Massachusetts.
Light but bright brown in color. Two finger width head, good lacing and head retention.
Sweet and slightly spicy aroma.
Sweet and malty taste again with a spicy finish. Good mouthfeel. Fairly drinkable. I’ve had better but I have certainly had worse.

Has a hazy ruby color with an off-white head and sweet malt smell. Taste is sweet/malt/spice and finishes with a hop/spice flavor. Overall one of the better beers from this brewery. AirForceHops (7813) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 1, 2011
Dark brown pour with red tints, beige head that left good thick lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, roasted malt, and citrus. Flavor is very sweet, with molasses, dark fruit and a bit of nuttiness. A hint of hops in the finish. A nice smooth mouthfeel, although a bit watery. The 9 % ABV is hidden well, however I let this one age a bit in my cellar. If you like English strong Ale, you should this one. he key is to let it age. I will buy again next winter.
