COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned; occasionally on cask.
Production moved from White Shield brewery to William Worthington’s brewery in December 2010. Prodiuction moved to the main Coors brewery in Burton in 2012 to keep up with increasing demand.
Ingredients: Halcyon barley, from the northern part of Norfolk; Sugar; Northdown and Challenger hops - including a hop extract; and a two-strain yeast supplied by Bass.
"It has a clean, fresh flavour and full bodied, balanced bitterness." Michael Jackson.
An iconic India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed to the same recipe as 1830. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice kindle White Shield’s embracing nose, enhanced by fragrant fruity characters and an intricate top-note of freshly baked bread. With time to condition, William Worthington’s unique dual yeast works up a sharp sparkle, crafting a full luxurious mouth-feel that combines with warming hints of alcoholic liqueur and White Shield’s ever so subtle peppery character, to create an exquisite bittersweet finish.

Bottle 500ml. As someone else said- are you sure this is an IPA?? Wasn’t even close to one in my book. It poured a reddish amber crowned with a thick white head. its aroma was sweet maltiness and this was reflected in the taste. All malts and no hops. Not a bad beer but not brilliant either - and certainly not what I would expect from an IPA.

500ml bottle at Purecraft Bar, Birmingham. Slightly pale amber with a fine white head. Floral aroma with distinctive notes of brandy and red fruits. Nutty and floral flavour with lingering bitterness. Not overly hoppy.

Legacy rating, bottle with meal in restaurant. Pours rich chestnut brown with foamy head. More malt than hops, but pretty robust aroma, somewhat peppery and rather unusual. Like it!

Bottle, 0.5l. Pours cloudy copper body with two finger white head with some lacing. Malts on the nose, lots of yeast, a bit herbal, touch of caramel. Medium body with creamy texture. Regular carbonation, just the right amount to bring out the flavours on the tongue. Aroma of malts, yeast, hops, caramel, licorice, wood. A bit peppery, slightly boozy. Pretty well rounded drink. Moderately bitter. Pretty dry finish. Overall, tasty one.

Clear deep golden with a large rocky ivory head. Big English pale malty aroma with a smooth nutty caramalt tone, and a light grassy hop kiss. Full and smooth flavor that’s bread toasty, with only a kiss of grassy hops. Pleasant mild doughy caramel-ish sweetness.

Bottle 0,50L. Clear orange color with thin, long lasting, off-white head. Weak aroma of roasted malts with caramel, herbs and some fruits. Taste starts light bitter and caramely. Finish turns to moderate bitter with burnt caramel bitterness. Medium body, dry texture, soft carbonation. Not bad...

I like flavour but not so as to be overpowering, this beer is just right, quaff-able.

Aroma of weak shoe polish, nice foamy and creamy head. Bitter on the palate not lasting. Taste fades quickly. More taste on the froth than in the body. A bit too much like a bitter and not an IPA. Too much ABV for the style also.

Jun. ’16. A 0.5 l bottle that poured a clear golden body with a medium sized head. A bit of caramel, bread and some herbal aroma. Fine bitter roasted flavor, bread, roasted caramel and apple/other fruity with vague herbal hop notes, too. Medium body. Finished long, bitter herbal and papery. Although rater simple, it’s a decent bitter with straightforward bitterness.
