shrubber85 (11706) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - JUL 17, 2004
UPDATED: NOV 12, 2006 Aroma fairly subtle malt. Nice dark color with good head. Very nice strong malt flavor with the barest hint of molasses/treacle - very little sweetness. Very full palate. Next to no bitterness. An extremely good Schwarzbier. (Drank from bottle at Wuerzburg Hofbrau so this was extremely fresh).

Can. Dark color with a very thick off-white head. Has a lovely aroma of roasted malts. Flavor is roasty, and sweet. I can really taste the chocolate and coffee. Very smooth finish and quite drinkable.

larsga (7676) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 11, 2005
Medium-sized creamy head, dark-red almost black clear body. Aroma is sweet and raisin-like. Deep, dry toffee/raisin taste, which in the aftertaste dries up. An excellent schwarzbier. Taste could have lingered longer, though. (0.5l bottle.)

Again in Würzburg. The pils was good so I gave the Scharzbier a tumble. Poured nearly black with a big brown head. Nose of heavy malt witih a hint of chocolate and coffee. Very good in the mouth, and smooth going down. A very excellent example of the type.

planky84 (3494) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 27, 2010
Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark brown pour with a beige head, soon dissipates. Aromas of roasted malts, stewed apple, pears, blackberries. Fruity old nose. Flavours of peaches, mangoes, candy sugars, toffee, butterscotch and chocolate. Dry and fruity mouthfeel. Light, sweet-hoppy finish.

Bottle from German Restarant in Otsu, Japan. Dark Brown colour. with tan head. Light reast and caramel smell. Low carbonation. Little watery and some dryness in the aftertaste. A light milk feel. It was easy to drink and enjoy with the meal. No bitterness

Bottle. Near black with a slight tan head. Strong aroma of dark chocolate and violets with roasted notes. Very smooth in the mouth with dark fruits, more chocolate and a decent dry finish. Very good.
