Quack-Duck (9484) - Down South, GERMANY - JAN 28, 2013
bottle, delivered by pivnizub! Deep brown, almost black, with a creamy beige head. Dry malty base, roasted malts, coffee, shy hints of caramel. crdic (105) - California, USA - JUL 10, 2002
This beer’s head is tan-colored and fairly thin, and diminishes quickly. Its color is beautifully black, almost like a porter, but clearer and more noticeably brown. Its aroma is pleasant; very Germanic in quality, but dark, with roasted malt. Its flavor is somewhat bockish, but darker, more bitter, more chocolatey; however, it seems weak, almost watery, and fails to live up to the aroma’s promise. The mouthfeel is somewhat flat; no carbonation at all, no warmth. This isn’t a bad beer, but surely there must be better schwarzbiers out there. I like this enough that I want to find them, but not enough that I’d go out of my way to drink this one again. joergen (27970) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 8, 2005

Deep brown body and a good beige head. Nice coffe and toffee aroma. Otherwise, an average beer. yespr (44705) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - NOV 18, 2007
50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a diminishing light brown head. Breadish aroma, dry. Flavour is dry breadish with a mild caramel note, yet persisting dry into the finish. Maria (10212) - Thisted, DENMARK - NOV 24, 2010
It’s black-red with a creamy and lasting head. The aroma has notes of earthy malt, caramel, light licorice and syrup. The flavour is moderately sweet with notes of earthy malt, light licorice and ryebread, and the finish is dry. Koelschtrinker (20208) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 1, 2011
Stimmig malziger Antrunk, weich. Brown 500ml bottle, best before 17 Dec 2010, my second beer during my 2 July 2010 German beer evening. Poured (twice) into my ’Paderborner’ tall vase shaped glass.
Dark brown with reddy hints with a thick tan head.
The aroma was of burnt/roasted/toasted malts with semi-sweet molasses as it warmed.
The taste was malty, but a little dry up front, the dryness continueing throughout the mouthfeel.
I thought the body a bit thin, but I always do with German black beers, they just seem to lack character where they most need it and have very little richness or depth.
