3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: Dark copper with ruby highlights. Frothy white head, which doesn’t last. Effervescence visible.
Aroma: Toasty nutty caramel, clove or cinnamom and some prune or raisin in the background.
Flavour: Not too much depth in terms of the malt profile, but some sweetness that is a little cloying. Could either do with some more roasty flavours or some more hop bitterness to balance the sweetness. Definitely hints of Christmas fruit cake or pudding.
Mouthfeel: Not as much body as I was hoping for, but I may have been expecting something more akin to a porter. finish is quick with a slight warming aftertaste (but not something that makes me want to drink a case of it!)
Overall: As a big fan of the Wychwood guys’ beer, a bit underwhelmed with this. The Hobgoblin Reserve is a better option.

500ml bottle. Poured a crystal clear chestnut brown colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is sweet malt, red berry fruit. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth rich malty sweet sugary fruit, light dry spicy, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. alexmate (308) - South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - DEC 18, 2017
Light brown colour, almost chestnut or russet. Aroma of mixed spice similar to what you get with mulled wine or as mentioned mince pies. Taste is big on cinnamon, cloves and bananas - tastes a lot like a wheat beer with some caramel and malty flavours to the mix. This is my second time trying this and it is better second time around, but nothing astounding taste wise, but it is unique I guess. MrTipple (7004) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 17, 2017
Sweet grain and cereal malts, caramel, dark molasses, spices, cinnamon. Clear brown, medium, creamy, beige head. Medium sweet. More caramel, sweet, dark rye bread, toffee pie, sweet malts, spices, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Unspectacular, one-dimensional. Bottle from Wine Rack, Chiswick.

Very well balanced ruby red ale, with a Christmas twist. Subtle hints of spices and other seasonal goodness. Went surprisingly well with a Thai red curry, of all things. Very flavoursome. Not bad for just over a quid in B&M bargains. bjakk (828) - Skagafjordur, ICELAND - DEC 1, 2017
Brown, clear with yellow creamy foam. Sweet, honey, and bonbon (perubrjóstsykur) in the aroma. Sweet, fruit, honey, with strong sweet fruity hoppy aftertaste. Quite drinkable. Milter (1080) - Nyborg, DENMARK - NOV 7, 2017

O: Nice winter beer, but not too heavy. Could sip a few of these in succession.

Pours dark reddish brown with a small white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is cinnamon and spice. Light to medium carbonation. Texture is light and warming and taste has prominent cinnamon, caramel, and is a little fruity.
