Hobgoblin is strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end.
The ruby red coloured Hobgoblin is full-bodied and has a delicious chocolate toffee malt flavour balanced with a rounded moderate bitterness and an overall fruity character.

On tap at "na 7.schode", Zilina. Ruby red with medium white head. Spicy, intensive aroma of caramel malts. First sip is mild, light bitterness slowly apears after few seconds, light, fruity sweet in the end. Dry, light body, flat carbonation. Decent.

Draught pint, served from a cask at The Sir Christopher Hatton, Chancery Lane on 26/02/15. Ruby reddish brown colour with a small off-white head which quickly disappears. Medium bodied with very little to no carbonation. Aroma of caramel, malt and fruit. Light bitter taste, but heavy in sweet fruit. Wouldn?t want to drink more t hand one.

I found this to be a delicious English bitter ale, made all the more enjoyable in the setting of a somewhat authentic British style pub here in South Carolina. On draft, this poured a ruby reddish-brown copper appearance with good lacing and some white head. Aroma of English hops and caramel malt, rich aroma intensity. Tasty and smooth, featuring an almost chocolately caramel maltiness, with an earthy bitterness that finishes cleanly. Some warm spice notes here and there. Medium-full bodied, comfortably filling, overall a very pleasant experience. I will definitely try this again.

Cask at JDW Putney. Clear dark orange amber, still, decent foamy off-white head, sparse lacing. Aroma is caramelly malt. Body is medium, slightly foamy, smooth. Taste is toffee, lightly ashy, slight citrus, some chemical, a little drying. Decent.

Deep ruby red with a light tan head. Malt nose with some slight floral hints. In the mouth, nice and solid maltiness throughout, peppered with light grasses, a little spice, some boiled fruits.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours a dark ruby brown with a couple fingers of off white head. Not a lot of retention but some nice thick lacing is left behind.

Aroma: Caramel, butterscotch, dark malts, toffee.

Flavours: Vanilla, caramel, toffee, dark malts.

Mouthfeel: Very thin and watery with little carbonation.

Overall: An okay English bitter. I found it a bit on the thin side. I realize bitters arenít usually a thick beer but I think this one was a little thin for the style. Also, no real bitterness to speak of, just a lot of sweetness. Not a lot going on.

Cask pint in Carre Arms, Sleaford. Not quite sure what has gone wrong with Hobgoblin. The beer that got me started with craft brews, and used to be one of my favourite bottled ales always disappoints on tap. Metallic aroma, thin and watery appearance . Watery mouth feel, metallic and astringent taste with little discernible hoppiness. Struggled to finish the pint. Meh.

Pours clear brown with a light tan head. Aroma of toffee, biscuity malt and light fruit. Flavour is over moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Mini Cask from Tesco, Gateshead. Dark copper coloured with red fruit, malt, chocolate and burnt toffee flavours followed by a roasted, nutty and warming fruity finish. It also has fruity currants and a creamy smooth mouthfeel to the finish.
