Traditionally Crafted Legendary Ruby Beer.
Hobgoblin is strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end.
The ruby red coloured Hobgoblin is full-bodied and has a delicious chocolate toffee malt flavour balanced with a rounded moderate bitterness and an overall fruity character.

Smells of chocolate and fruity vanilla. Almost see through but very dark brown in colour. Clean and flat on the tongue. Really pleasant tasting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A malty, chocolate, and perhaps a hint of caramel scent, but subdued. Medium bodied with a lack of carbonation. A unique, but not very satisfying taste. Malt, roast, chocolate, cream, and mild dried fruit, but far too smooth. Absolutely no hop at all. Tastes akin to a water downed chocolate milk.

Cask in The Fleetsbridge, a Toby Carvery of all places; ruby, clear, no head; aroma is berry fruit, nuttiness; tastes dry and of berries, toasted malt; this example was a shade flabby but I’ve had enough of this in the past to regard it as one of the better mainstream cask beers.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2013 I used to love a pint of hobgoblin back when it was 5%. I remamber it being a lovely flavoursome ale, but this pint was poor. Not sure if it was a bad pint or it’s just a lot worse for the reduction in ABV. Still had the ruby body and cream head, but the taste was vegetable with some caramel. Very disappointing. *UPDATE* Had again and it was certainly better, but still disappointing. A bit fruity and malty with a touch of caramel and licorice.

On tap @ Ryries. Amber in colour with a decent head. Biscuits and dried fruit on the nose. More biscuits plus some toffee and more dried fruit on the taste - a little bit of astringent maltiness on the finish, which spoils the end result. The palate as already mentioned is quite astringent on the finish but there is a decent structure and texture to this beer. Overall, solid but didn’t have another - preferred the bottled version in fact.

A dark ruddy ale, slight head which dissipated; aroma of burnt toffee; taste of a nice caramel note and a mild bitter finish.
