Shot (499) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - NOV 2, 2013
Pours a dark copper with a rocky, 2-inch head that dissipates to a quarter-inch. Aromas of caramel malt and hops. Flavors of sweet caramel up front with with brown sugar and a mild hop bite. Finishes with an alcohol warmth. Creamy mouthfeel. Rich, smooth and malty beer. Very enjoyable, but nothing terribly extraordinary.

Clear brew with a darker auburn colour and the head has a cream colour. Muted aroma, there is almost no aroma as a matter of fact. there is some dried fruit, caramel, banana. On the palate it is medium bodied, has a malted note and some heat on the finish. Meh, better than the hob goblin but that isn’t saying much.

Wolfenkopf (193) - Villa Park, Illinois, USA - OCT 26, 2013
The aroma is malty with a faint hint of caramel behind it. The overall aroma is not strong and one has to work to get a good whiff. The brew is a cherry wood brown with an almond colored head which is very fluffy. The taste is quite unusual. I’m sure it’s the combination of the hop and malt types that achieve this, but there is a sweet molasses quality to the flavor that I like. The mouth feel is thick and oily and the aftertaste turns slightly sour, but not to the point of ruining anything. This is a very interesting English Ale that needs to be tried.

Clear brown pour with a white head. Aroma is caramel malt, melanoidin, malt bomb but kind of oxidized. Ok, but not great.

Butleka 0.5l. Klarowne, miedzianoczerwone z srednioobfita kremowa piana, po ktorej pozostaje niewielki kozuszek do konca. W aromacie slody, karmel, owoce, chmiel i lekko wyczuwalny alkohol. Cialo srednie, wysycenie sredniowysokie. W smaku przyprawowe, pieprz, karmel, tosty, skórka ciemnego pieczywa. Goryczka pojawia sie z duzym opoznieniem, ale taka malo przyjemna, gryzaca i polaczona z alkoholem. Piwo nie specjalnie trafia w moj gust, malo pijalne ale tez nie degustacyjne.

Appearance: Clear amber/ruby with a cm thick ivory head. Aroma: Dried fruit, malty, tangerine, slightly vinous, syrup/caramel and pepper. Taste: Medium sweetness, low bitterness and medium sourness. Palate: Rough thick texture and medium body, average/prickly carbonation, with an abrupt astringent finish. Malty, fruity flavours dominate with a touch of alcohol warmth, along with notes of banana and bubble gum. Comments: Tasty and enjoyable.

500 ml bottle into pint glass, 2011 bottling. Pours lightly hazy deep ruby copper color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of caramel, pear, apple, toast, toffee, pepper, floral, grass, brown bread, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, pepper, floral grass, apple, pear, brown sugar, and floral/yeast earthiness. Moderate earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, pepper, floral, grass, pear, apple, and floral/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice English strong ale. Good balance and robustness of malt, hop, and yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

... Lost original rating... Exceptionally nice ale. Like a more intense, deeper, richer Hob Goblin.
