500ml bottle @ the 9th Shrewsbury Bottle Share Oct 14, courtesy of Simon. Pours black with creamy beige head. Chocolatey malt aroma continuing to the taste with deep lactose flavours and smooth comforting coffee tones. Why don’t Wye do more beers like this?? Cheers Simon for bringing the 500ml bottle to the October 2014 Bottle Swap: shared between four of us. Bottled in 2011 and one of six thousand such bottles according to the box it came in. Poured a deep black colour with a lightly tanned head. Chocolate nose with semi-sweet molasses giving the hops no chance in the aroma stakes. The taste was a smooth, dark chocolate pudding of a flavour palate, fairly sweet too. Really slick body which hid the alcohol very well: I liked it. 500ml bottle, Christmas present from the family. Poured carefully into the Wye Valley pint glass provided. Very dark with a tan head. Brazil nut toffee aroma. Big rich caramel malts with creamy vanilla, dried fruit with contrasting coffee bean and dark chocolate bitterness to draw the saliva. Alcohol warming, but not overpowering. Full bodied, slick and satisfying. madmitch76 (26435) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2013

Opaque black stout, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, light and semi dry. Easy going dark malts, no bitterness or roast. Smooth. Light minerals. Touch of lactose and dark chocolate. Finishes smooth with a late carbonated nip. Relatively simple but hugely drinkable.
Smells like being cask aged, which it hasn’t. Taste is sweet with raisins and port..

Bottle at the De Molen, second Tuesday tasting, August 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a thin off-white head. The aroma is weak malt with a hint of raisins. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with some roasted malt, zesty citrus fruit, liqourice and a hint of coffee of the smooth and flavour packed palate. This is a super rich and super tasty beer from Wye Valley. I’m impressed and looking forward to more of the same. Vaiz (4460) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - AUG 13, 2013
Bottle at 2nd tuesday tasting. @ de Molen, hosted by dEnk. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma of dusty licorice, raisins and a hint of port. Flavor is bitter, roasted and loads of licorice and wine. A bit thin and off balance, but still well drinkable. dEnk (4200) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - AUG 13, 2013
Bottle @ 2nd Tuesday tasting @ De Molen. Thanks Joost!
Aroma has winey raisin port like notes, chocolate, some roasty black malt and fruity touches. Flavour is big roast, raisin, liquorice and chocolate. Almost seems barrel aged. Nice, but only for certain moments and in low quantaties, but really something else. deanso (10282) - Chiang Mai, THAILAND - AUG 13, 2013
