Strong rauch-smokiness the overwhelms. Deep brown, boarders black with little head. Slightly smokey, but more sweet. I personally have a hard time getting past the smokiness.
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2010 Tasted on tap at Breckenridge Brewery in Denver, Colorado. Deep black with a creamy head. Weak aroma. Carbonated, dark, a bit smoky flavor with a weak porter taste. Ok but really below average porter. bhensonb (15965) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 8, 2010
Tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a large tan head. Mild chocolate aroma. Flavor is dark malt and mild chocolate. If it’s smoked, I’m insensitive today. Finishes mildly bitter. Nikiel (879) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 24, 2010
I had this beer casked at the brewery and it was delicious, the smokey flavores from the beer melded with the aromas the cask provided and created a delicious flavorful porter. SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JAN 22, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a dark beige to tan head. Has a big campfire smoke aroma. This is like drinking a glass of smoked salmon. Because it was cask conditioned the body was smooth and velvety. Served at cellar temperature and simply delicious. drfabulous (8808) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - NOV 23, 2009
On draught at brewpub. Light smoke taste -which I suppose is good since I do not like smoked beers. Medium to light body. Was on cask. Nothing memorable here.

(draft at Wynkoop in Denver). Very dark brown color. Medium size tan head. Smokey malt aroma. Sweet malt flavor with light smoke. Short duration. Slick/creamy texture. Smooth finish. Soft carbonation. Good lacing.
cask at the brewpub - Pours dark brown and smells of smoke and roast malt. It has a smooth, sweet, smoky roast malt flavor. I think it’s just a little too light on flavor, but still good. It’s medium bodied this being the cask version, lightly carbonated. DJMonarch (9179) - Northwich, Cheshire, ENGLAND - AUG 20, 2009
On Tap at the Wynkoop Brewery, Denver 07/10/2008
Roast aroma. Small beige head. Black strong in alcohol and smooth on the palate with some dryness in a crisp and bitter burnt roast finish. BroSpud (2282) - , Massachusetts, USA - JUL 10, 2009
Included in a sampler at brewpub. Tried several beers on a visit to Wynkoop and I THINK this was one of them. Do not remember anything standing out in particular but they were all well done.
