Pour on tap, dark brownish pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, dark fruit, earth into a bit of brown sugar, molasses, some sherry, red cherry and some slight spicy notes. Taste was a mix of sweet caramel, molasses, brown sugar into a bit of dark fruit, red fruits into some slight tart wine, finishing sweet. Sour funky barrel aroma and flavors. A crazy mix of flavors with minimal carbonation and a moderate mouthfeel. Over big, bold, but wild with sourness and flavors that make it challenging to drink more than half a pint. Zymurgeist2 (2366) - Redwood City, California, USA - MAR 19, 2013
On tap at the brewery. Perhaps I was disappointed that Oyster Stout had run out and I was geared for that, but I found this beer lacking. Poured a clear brown with almost no head - which is ok for style. Aroma of cherry, chocolate, and syrup. The flavor was mostly a sweet and sticky syrup. Very viscous. Heavy dark dark brown with a very thin tan head. Nose was syrupy and dark with some dark fruity malt juice, dates, dark maple, and some brown sugar. Flavor is much the same with roasty dark malt syrup, dark fruitiness like dates/figs, a touch of molasses, and a subtle dry metallic tone on the back. Lingering syrupy finish.
