NOTE! In the US this beer is marketed as Xbeeriment #44. The reason for this is that any references to President Obama would only be permitted by US authorities if we had a written permission from the White House. So the dressing’s changed, but the beer stays the same!

Also please NOTE that the first US edition of "Xbeeriment #44" is erroneously labelled 10.4% ABV.

English: Brewed to celebrate Barack Obama’s inaugural as the 44th President of the United States, and the first black person to hold the office. A potent stout with a fair amount of peated malt in the grain bill. This adds a smoky character to the beer which obviously also has roasted aromas from the dark malts and roasted barley as well as loads of citrusy hop notes from the US hop varieties. NOTE: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. From the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

RBSG09 bottle at the grand tasting. Darkest brownish-amber color with a tan head. Aroma is big on roasted malt and coffee with a whisper of smokiness. Flavors of cocoa powder, burnt coffee, oak, smoke, and alcohol. Dry finish with moderate bitterness.

On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival. It pours a next to black body under a tan head of medium size. Slgihtly oaked (peat?) nose with roasted malts, some burnt notes, coffee and alcohol. Charcoal, coffee, sweetness and some warmth in the mouth, rather dry, even though there’s some sweetness present. Roasted finish. A nice beer that I would like to have more of. (090516)

A Mes rate. Bottle at the Weekend of Tarts.
Thanks to Bullseye for this. Opaque, very, very dark brown with a superb off white head. A proper Danish stout aroma. Big hops, slightly floral, dry, fruity and plenty of roasty darkness. Massively smoky and oaky in the flavour. Big dark chocolate bitterness. Another slew of hoppy bitterness too. Loads of oak chips, quite French in fact. Something a little thin and dull about the finish that holds it back just a little. Bloody excellent beer all the same.

From [email protected] Øldage 2009. A low tan head over a black body with no clarity. Dry, powdery coffee-ish malt aroma. Cocoa notes and a whiff of fruity hops. Taste is fairly dry malty. Lot of roast and notes of coffee, cocoa and ash. Also quite hoppy with a fine fruity bitterness that last all the way through. Medium body, slick mouthfeel. Dry, malty-bitter finish.

500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) - shared by Mirjukka - thanks!
Black, tan head. Stodgy porridgy aroma, and loads of elastoplast. Massively dry and ashy palate. However, it’s quite tasty, plenty of fruity and citrussy hops.

(50cl bottle) Pours a black body with a medium tan head. Aroma of citrus, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Flavor of roasted malt, oak, citrus, and coffee with a bitter finish. Nice!

Bottle. Huge head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are smoke, roast malt, coffee and hops.

Oakes (17815) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 21, 2009
Murky dark brown. Very coffeeish with hazelnut aromas, light vanilla and a hint of chocolate. Woody, thin character with a sweet, syrupy background. Toasty in the finish. This never really comes together after a promising aroma.

Maria (10211) - Thisted, DENMARK - JUN 15, 2009
It is black with a light brown, lasting and creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, coffee and licorice. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, licorice, coffee, fruit, citrus and weak hints of smoke. The finish has a roasted bitterness. It is nicely balanced and pleasant to drink.

Bottle shared by Bu11zeye at WSF, thank you Marcus! Pitch black with nice tan head. Rich carob, coffee, and nougat, nuts, and smoke in the aromas. Smooth, clean, nice. Somewhat burnt but in a good, roasted coffee bean way. I really liked this one. Yum.
