NOTE! In the US this beer is marketed as Xbeeriment #44. The reason for this is that any references to President Obama would only be permitted by US authorities if we had a written permission from the White House. So the dressing’s changed, but the beer stays the same!

Also please NOTE that the first US edition of "Xbeeriment #44" is erroneously labelled 10.4% ABV.

English: Brewed to celebrate Barack Obama’s inaugural as the 44th President of the United States, and the first black person to hold the office. A potent stout with a fair amount of peated malt in the grain bill. This adds a smoky character to the beer which obviously also has roasted aromas from the dark malts and roasted barley as well as loads of citrusy hop notes from the US hop varieties. NOTE: From 2009 - 2012 this beer was brewed at Amager Bryghus. From the summer of 2012 it will be brewed at Herslev Bryghus.

Habanero (4680) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK, DENMARK - MAR 23, 2013
Bottled. Pours pitch black with a medium sized tan head. Leaving a good lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and dark fruit notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft CO2. A delicious stout.★★★★

Bottle labelled as #44 @Linköping Beer Expo 2013. Aroma sweet, lots of sweet dark malts, chocolate with smoked notes. Taste is sweet, chocolatey with some bitter malt notes. Bitterness fairly high.

Dark brown coloured body with a very prominent ruby and violet glow near the bottom, with a thin, half centimetre tall light-brown head. Aroma of smoked peat, nuts, earth, raisins, alcohol, a bit of coffee and some milk sugars as well. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt and peat flavours with a bit of soy sauce and a little earth, but a very thin finish and a bitterness that is pungent. Aftertaste has a bit of an oaky, earthy finish of malt and peat, but the sugars don’t exist and the complexity isn’t much more than a cup of starbucks (read overroasted) coffee. Overall, not such a great beer and perhaps missing a stride along the way in the flavour profile and finish - this one didn’t have the legs. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 28-May-2012 for US$9.95 sampled at home in Washington on 12-February-2013, the day of the State of the Union Address for the first address of the second term of President Obama’s presidency.

Very dark brown colour. Flavour is on the whole far too sour. Body is really thin and watery.

mcberko (17841) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 10, 2012
On tap at Apex, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma of light smoke and medium roasted malt – not too smoky. Flavour of lightly ashy smoke, roasted malt and some dry cocoa. Full-bodied, with a tasteful amount of smoke. Very solid stuff.

Leighton (21255) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 25, 2012
Draft at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours black-brown with a fine, white foam head. Tangy dark malt nose. More tangy dark malts in the flavor, some dusty cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish, light roast, mild tang. Seems old, not in top condition. Would be kind of weak to bring an out-of-shape beer to the fest. But this beer was just OK.

BenH (3439) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 19, 2012
Bottle. Near black with a tan head. Nice roasty aroma, some chocolate and burnt toast. Similar taste with a slight charred smokiness. Slightly sweet and a little thin for its abv. Nice

ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 5, 2012
A - Pours a dark brown-black with a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of roasted dark chocolate malts, dark fruits, smoke, vanilla, molasses, black licorice, and a hint of booze. T - Starts off with a mix of dark chocolate malts with some raisin and other dark fruits and some black licorice. Through the middle, some vanilla and smoke comes through with some molasses. The finish is a mix of dark chocolate, smoke, vanilla, dark fruits, molasses, and a touch of booze. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and a touch creamy with a sweet and smokey finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice balanced smoked stout with a nice blend of smoke flavor and base stout.
