Bottle. Black beer, brown head. Hoppy grassy aroma, tar and chocolate. Chocolate flavor, bitter, tar, licorice, roasted, grassy. Rune (13643) - Tromsø, NORWAY - SEP 15, 2011
500ml bottle, no.32 of 374, bb: tomorrow, carried back home from Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo. Pours a big dense and bubbly, fawn-coloured head, slowly fading, covering a deep, devil-black body. Inviting aroma of chocolate malts underscored by liquorice and dusty hops. Pleasant taste of slightly roasted dark malts, woody vanilla, some berries and liquorice supported by tingling alcohol. The bourbon part is, however, not present. Dry bittering malts to the finish. Surprisingly easy to drink. Just a very decent sipper at home on a Saturday eve (Tromsø, 03.09.2011). The flavour is quite hard roasted with notes of bourbon with the authentic vanilla and oaky notes. Chocolate and light coffee notes finishes this great Bourbon edition. Sample @ Gothenburg Beerfest 2011. 2-9-2011 bottle#134/374 Palme (4831) - Bergen, NORWAY - SEP 5, 2011
0.5l bottle #53 of 374. This one pours a dark dark brown - near black body with a massive fluffy and tanned head. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, sweet alcohol notes(bourbon?), vanilla, also something light fruity and sweet. Could it be like figs or dates? Oak, some good quality coffee and hints of dark chocolate and licorice. Really nice! Really lively carbonation, it’s full-bodied and has a nice creamy and oily mouthfeel. Strong and roasted flavors. Lots of roasted malts, a distinct bourbon flavor, really woody and there’s lots of nice stingy hops. Ends with chocolate, vanilla, dark caramel and tons of licorice before it glides in to a both extremely warming and hoppy aftertaste. This has everything the un-barrel aged version is missing. Nice beer!
