UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 From a bottle at GBF 2011. Very soft oak notes adds that extra complexity and depth to an already very good imperial stout. ClubGonzo (5668) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 27, 2011
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a jet black body with a medium light beige head. Nose is dark chocolate, grassy hops, bourbon, coffee and licorice. Hints of coconut, wood, alcohol and soy sauce. Although the aromatic profile retains a high degree of complexity, I do find myself wishing that it was somehow more pungent; I really have to sniff around to find these things and that should not have been necessary with a 10,4 % imp stout... Oh well, maybe my nose is just having a bad day. :-P Taste is much more gratifying; strong notes of espresso coffee, licorice, bourbon, vanilla and hints of wood, burnt toast and grassy hops. Throughout the palate, warming alcohol definitely picks the party up; this is one hot beer with a lot of flavor! Long, sharp aftertaste dominated by grassy bitter hops and dry espresso flavor, enhanced by alcohol. All in all a solid bourbon BA impy that I can totally dig into. If I was to criticize anything (and I am) it would have to be the abrupt espresso/alchol/hop finish which is a bit brutal compared to the rest of the beer. Maybe a bit of aging would do it good, but nevertheless this is a very enjoyable beer. thewolf (12533) - Kolding, DENMARK - AUG 21, 2011

[bottle 168 og 374]
Completely opaque black with a big, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has good sweetness, lots of vanilla, roasted malts, vinious, light liqourice. Light smoke chocolate in the back. Highish carbonation, fairly light and quite dry mouthfeel. Flavour is very oaky, more oak character than actual bourbon/vanilla. Vinious, warming, mild sweetness. Light chocolate and smoke in the back. But mostly this is all about the oak. The high carbonation doesn’t really help. Still nice, though.
