Pours a rich chocolatey dark color. Tan creamy looking head. Smells kind of malty. Good bitterness and mouthfeel! Medium bodied. Light lacing. Hints of a chocolatey taste. Best of all beers I’ve had from latin America. Will certainly have again.

Poured a very dark translucent black....which had a reddish tinge when held to the light, small tan head. Some caramel malts in the nose, not much else. Flavor is much sweeter than expected. Mild roasty malts...maybe weak would be a better description. Thin bodied....more like a weak porter.

(12 oz bottle: $1.50 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) It’s been over 10 years since I last had this beer, and certainly my tastes have changed and my palate has improved in that time. Immediately, it’s clear I don’t like this beer nearly as much as I used to. It’s sweet and sugary, almost like it has some cane sugar in it, but not to the point of, say, Cuzqueña Malta, which I happen to like more. Molasses, caramel, unfermented malted barley, but very light on roast or bitterness. The aroma is similar, dominated by malt and sugary sweetness. Medium bodied, but while not thin per se, it seems thin based on how sweet and malty the beer is. Carbonation is adequate. Very dark brown, opaque and nearly black through the center, ruddy at the edges. Light tan head only pours to half an inch or so, settling to a ring while leaving some small patches of lace on the glass. A decent South American dark lager, one that in comparison to others, shows some restraint in the sweetness, but you still have to like sweet, dark beers to like this one because there’s no hops, no roast and no balance.

(12.27.05) 12 oz Brown bottle available at the Fogo de Chao restaurant, Chicago, IL. Black hued lager having a long-lasting tan head with good lacing. Soft carbonation. Sweet malt aroma. Light-to-medium bodied that starts with light malt sweetness and spice and hop flavors. Finishes dry with pleasant light malt aftertaste. Very good drinkable beer.

Pours almost black very dark brown. Decent Tan head that hangs around for a bit. Was expecting a darker Porter flavor but still it help its own. One of the more unsaul beers we have tried at Beer Club and was like by the "Light" beer drinker as well.

12 oz. bottle thanks to Fred. Dark Dark pour with a smallish brown head. Lasted for a long time and left nice lacing. Aromas were alcohol and malts. Flavor was a little sour, with some dust and creamy malts. Not too bad.

There is a malty aroma with some hints of licorice. The color is a deep black with a large tan head. The flavor is malty sweet with a roasted finish on the palate.

Black with a light brown head. Weak aroma. Flavor is just bad. I think I’m going to pour it.

Extremely dark red color, almost black, with small frothy light brown head. Aroma has notes of rhubarb, cherries, licorice, black pepper. Flavor is malty, creamy, smooth, hints of smoke, tobacco, lime. Finish is faintly sweet. Definitely an interesting brew, somewhat difficult to put a finger on.

Dark tan head on a black body with faint ruby edges. Smells like sweet dairy, and some dark fruits. Taste is pretty lame, taste some roasty grain flavors but there are many off flavors as well. Mouthfeel however is nice. Bah, dont like it.
