First batch ever. Held up surprisenly well. Big spice nose thin and oxidized. Tannic and dry. stevoj (6014) - Boise, Idaho, USA - AUG 19, 2015
On tap at Yakima taproom, part of a flight. A bit heavy on the candy sugar, but all else (aroma, taste) was on the money for a Belgian. Just a not too sweet.... BillKismet (4177) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 19, 2015
Amber-mahogany body with off-white head. Sweet malty, candy aroma with plum wine and some dark fruit notes. Sweet plummy flavor and candi malt. A bit watery mouthfeel, despite the high ABV%. Unusual absence of any yeastyness for a BSA. JPDIPSO (6317) - Wauwatosa, USA - JUN 6, 2015
Near brown, with a garnet hue when held to the light. Tall, stable dark beige head. Sweeter scents, with oranges and grapefruit peels in the background. Some caramel and dark candi work their way around. Some resin and floor cleaner also seem to make their rounds. Smooth with plenty of zip on the tongue. Starts sweet, but plenty of bitterness and light acidity to balance. Some earthiness in the finish along with charcoal and toasted grains. Good, but with a few sharp edges.2/10 Beerdrinker79 (2188) - Idaho, USA - APR 11, 2015
Sampler at the brewery- Pours dark rust with small head. Aroma is candy sweet, sugary, plums and figs. Taste is similar, this brewery is solid, not many flaws, but nothing mind blowing here.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a glossed over slightly orange to ruddy brown color with a one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Lacing was somewhat there and stringy with a weird somewhat spider web pattern to it.
The smell had a light spice (pepper and clove) leading to a semi-sweet Belgian candy sweetness.
The taste was mainly spicy and allowed a slight sweetness to pervade eloquently into the flavor.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there and moderately trying to make an effort to overtake my tongue into submission. Haha, it doesn’t.
Overall, for the most part, not a bad Belgian Strong Ale, I could see myself having this again. Wombata (627) - Kobe, JAPAN - AUG 13, 2014
UPDATED: AUG 20, 2014 Tap at the brewery.
Aroma: sour, medicinal, menthol, sage, roasty cola syrup, nutmeg, incense.
Flavor: menthol, cola, caramel, nutmeg and sage. Finishes long with a moderate malt and firm spice.
Comment: this could be the ultimate poster child for a divisive beer. Though I would not want to drink lots of it, it has great complexity and intriguing flavors. I’d give this a 43 but recommend it to those with an adventurous palate. I can see why this might be given a 30 by people who don’t like this style of beer. Even if one doesn’t like this, there’s no denying the superb palate and complexity of the aromas and flavors TizzleJizzle (792) - Garland, Texas, USA - JUN 8, 2013
