COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first ever and most beloved brew, ESA helped establish a following for cask-conditioned beer in the United States back in the 90s. East Kent Golding hops give this English style ale a subtle spiciness, which compliments its strong malt backbone. Hints of chocolate and caramel round out this deep chestnut colored ale. Floral, earthy, smooth.

This dark amber beer pours with a huge loose head and a slight haziness. The head slowly fades and leaves a decent lacing behind. The aroma immediately brings bubble gum to mind, with cherries and citurs notes evident. A hint of hops may be detectable behind the overall sweet, fruity nose. The first sip is more bitter than the aroma would have led me to believe. The wonderful bitterness is lightly supported by some malt in the background. The finish is a little dry, and some metallic aftertastes are present. Also a bit of a medicinal note lingering on the palate. A bit a fruitiness shows through the flavors a subsequent drinks are taken. The beer feels thin on the tongue, but itfeels like it is trying to hold on to the back of your tongue as it gradually fades down your throat.

Coppery smooth color. Good amount of head, which went right away except for a small layer. Smells is sweeter with a little malt in it. Flavor is very smooth, and does indeed work well with the hops and malt being equals in the beer.

Orange, coppery hue. Hoppy nose, subtle malt character in body. Acidic finish indicates high-alpha bittering hops. Beer feels unbalanced, but very drinkable.

Nice aroma of pine and resiney citrus hops. Very fruity, getting towards grapefruit. The body is quite bitter, resiney and long. The body is kind of one-sided, but the nose combined with a speckled orange appearance make a presentable ale. Not bad.

Nice aroma, creamy head and great color. I really enjoyed this brew. I'll definitely be buying it again - in fact, I've enjoyed all of the Yards brews that I've had so far.

Deep copper. Had a huge head in the pitcher, none in my pour. Lots of caramel, a bit fruity, somewhat sugary. Excellent texture, very creamy.

(SCBE2003): Clear amber with big beige head. Aroma is earthy, light sweet, caramel. Taste is light sweet, caramel, before strong earthy bitterness takes over, light floral and light grapefruit. Medium body, slightly chewy.

Cloudy copper/amber, dense offwhite head and good lace. Some floaties. Aroma of floral hops, some citrus, esters, and even a wee bit of pine as it warms. Toffeelike malt, nice solid hop flavor much like the aroma, with a nice bitter finish. Very slightly yeasty. Becomes more complex as it warms, props to the Philly Adams Mark hotel bar for not freezing their glasses. Hell, props to them for stocking a local micro, unlike most hotel bars. Quite pleasing.
