COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Detailed in a letter from the General to his officers during the war, Washington’s recipe employed molasses to aid fermentation and give rich caramel notes to this robust, roasty ale. The recipe reflected his admiration for Philadelphia-style porters, especially those brewed by Robert Hare (whose original brewery stood just blocks from where ours is now). Our Tavern Porter, inspired by Washington’s, is dark, smooth, and complex with just a hint of dried fruit in the finish

Bottled. Poured medium-deep brown with a nice cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet vanilla and cocoa with light-moderate roast to it.. some odd soapy accents to it. The flavor found sweet, toasty molasses and black patent at the core.. some sour malty notes and a kiss of vanilla around.. a little too sharp at the finish. Medium-bodied with light-ish overall roast on the palate.. good level of carbonation.. OK overall.

This is one of the smoothest porters I have tried. I really enjoy this Porter from Yards. Give it a try and I am sure you will too.

I think those who ranked it highly here pretty much nailed it. One important thing I would add is that I found it much, much better once I kept it stored on the underground basement's floor rather than chilled in the fridge. Much larger head and far better body and flavor at that temperature. A really nice Porter for the price.

Bitter, with aftertaste. 7% ABV well hidden. Like the Presidential series and the labeling. Regardless, not good enough to drink again. Sorry George...

Dark mahogany brown with a delicate one-finger head and nice lace. Aromas of roasted malt, cocoa powder, molasses and anise. Taste is similar with the roasted malt, and cocoa accompanied by leather, licorice, roasted coffee and dark fruit. Medium body, low carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a dry finish.

Bottle. Hazy brown color with a khaki head and nice lacing. Aroma and flavor were coffee, caramel, roasted malt and some chocolate. As it warms, I get some dark fruit. Not my favorite porter but I can drink it. Average
