Bottle (Feb 22, 2017 bottling). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/burnt grain), with notes of tar, leather, licorice. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Kinda rough/burnt and simple, but drinkable. Could use some aromatic hops or sweeter notes (caramel, vanilla, chocolate) to offset the roasty-and-phenolic aromas. mansquito (6438) - Nueva York, New York, USA - APR 6, 2017
From my father: pours near black with a small beige head. Aroma is brewed coffee and some chocolate... very particular coffee. Taste is somewhat sweet. Not bitter at all. Very smooth. Not watery but quite light. I was very surprised that I have never had this before. So it goes. MeadMuse39 (17) - Haddon Township, New Jersey, USA - MAR 20, 2017
Pour: Black like a cup of strong coffee. Head was caramel amber like the foam from root beer.
Nose: Roasted Malts, Coffee, Slight sweetness.
Taste: Smoky hickory, chocolate, coffee, slight moleasses syrupy note. Some sweetness. Creamy.
Mouthfeel: Light bodied, Few small soft bubbles.
Overall: I would pair this with anything Cajun style, but you could even match it with Brie toasted almonds and French baguette. Nutty qualities as well as mushrooms would complement it as well. demannu (451) - New Jersey, USA - MAR 19, 2017
Black pour, thin tan head. Next to no lacing. Mild roasty aroma. While the favor is also a bit mild, it does hit all the right notes for being a solid stout. Body is smooth but again a bit lacking. Enjoyable but mild overall.

(Bottle). Pours a black brown complexion with disappointing tan head. Roasty malt aroma. The flavor is mild roasted malt with smooth palate. Simple but good.

Scents of fig, chocolate, oat, coffee and maple syrup. You taste the chocolate - overall, it’s very light. The other flavors don’t stand out as much as the chocolate. The aftertaste is mild with a light bitterness to it. An easy stout to drink! OnTheTrail (508) - Virginia, USA - DEC 5, 2016
Pours black, big medium brown head. Rich chocolate aroma, some cocoa powder. Taste is cocoa some sweet malt, a little cola. Mouthfeel is mwdium, smoothly carbonated. More accessible than some Stouts, but enjoyable. PhillyCraft (7230) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 29, 2016
Backlog, Pours black from a bottle with a medium beige head. Tasting notes were dark chocolate, brownie, dark malt, coffee, and grain. Medium bodied stout and relatively drinkable at 5.5. Also tried this blended with Fruli strawberry, Canals was calling it a chocolate covered strawberry on the tap station. MadRobin (2988) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Poured from 12 oz. bottle.
Opaque, near-black with a 2-finger tan head and good lacing.
Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, roasted malt and a little nuttiness.
Taste of caramel, roasted malt, bakers chocolate, roasted coffee and nuts.
Medium body and medium/high carbonation.
A somewhat sweet, malty and roasty stout with plenty of flavor.
