Cask (gravity) @ NWAF 10, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.

Alc. 5.5%. Clear dark brown color with a average, creamy to frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, berry, smoke notes, moderate hoppy, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, sweet sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. Quit alcoholic of a 5.5% beers but maybe the program was wrong and it is 7.6% as on ratebeer ! Cask. Took this down as 6% ABV. Pours an opaque dark brown with an orange hue and an off-white head leaving laces. Sweet/tart aroma of wood and hard roasted malt. Quite full-bodied, low carbonation, licorice, hard roasted malt and cough syrup. Rather alcoholic finish. 200110

Cask, handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, 21-12-09 Stood in the pub whilst it was blizzarding heavily outside, so only had chance to have small amount before I realised that not moving soon may see me stuck in Aylesbury for the evening. Pours brown a touch hazy with an off-white head. There is a good level of bitterness, some dark fruits, its not as sweet or as cloying as I was expecting and even the alcohol isnt the harsh burner that I believed it was going to be. Nice stuff wish I could have had more time, not been driving and the snow not quite so hideous. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Cask at Pigs Ear 09. Chewy grain, some sourness, dark fruit. Warming glow. Easy to drink despite the alcohol. Nice one.

Cask, Newark Winter Fest 09. Very dark brown with a beige foam. Aromas are earthy roast malts with dark chocolate. Some berries and raisins with evident alcohol. Flavours are sweet toffee and chocolate malts with raisins. Roast coffee with sweet caramel. Yeast and citrus notes. Decent.

[email protected] Newark Winter Beer Festival, 2009. Blackish beer with a lightly roasted aroma. The flavour is bitter and richly malty. Overall a nice richly malty beer.

Gravity dispense at Pigs Ear Festival 2008, London
Dark brown, almost black color. Sweet caramel aroma and sweet caramel flavor. There is also some nice hop and light yeast aroma, some chocolate flavor; smooth caramel brew, with a sweet caramel final, light fruitness, leaving a very pleasant trace of English hops. Very enjoyable.

Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2008. Winner of the South East barley wine category. Black/dark ruby colour. OK dark fruit aroma. Oh dear, very alcoholic, doesnt hide its strength at all. Drank this side by side with the Stumpys Drunken Dog and the Stumpys wins easily. Some choc. Shares a lot of characteristics with the Stumpys except the drinkability. Not exactly a barley wine, more of an English strong ale. Still its quite good. Dried fruit flavours, some hop sting.

A Mes rate. Gravicask at Pigs Ear. Mahogany body with a thin white head. Plenty of pig farm in the aroma but in a good way. Some rich malt with a slight cheesy funk, faint fruity notes and some good balance from the hops. Similar flavour. Sweet raspberry jam and a perfect level of spice. Just a lick of bitter hoppage at the finish rounds it off nicely. Jolly good beer.
