Cask (gravity) @ NWAF 10, National Winter Ales Festival, The Venue, Sheridan Suite, Manchester, England.
Alc. 5.5%. Clear dark brown color with a average, creamy to frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, berry, smoke notes, moderate hoppy, light alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, sweet sweet. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. Quit alcoholic of a 5.5% beers but maybe the program was wrong and it is 7.6% as on ratebeer !
From cask. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is caramelish, sweet and toffee. Sweet, toffee, caramelish and slight roasted malty flavoured. Ungstrup (37309) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - FEB 12, 2011
Cask. A hazy red-brown beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma is very malty combined with a note of caramel and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and alcohol, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. joergen (27983) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 7, 2011

Deep copper colour, close to black, with a small off-white head. Aroma is wood, fruits, earth, mild alcohol as some slight berryish notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some slightly caramelly and alcoholic notes as well as some slight fruity and chocolaty notes with also liquorice as well.
Cask. Took this down as 6% ABV. Pours an opaque dark brown with an orange hue and an off-white head leaving laces. Sweet/tart aroma of wood and hard roasted malt. Quite full-bodied, low carbonation, licorice, hard roasted malt and cough syrup. Rather alcoholic finish. 200110 madmitch76 (24388) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 17, 2012

Pigs Ear. Clear very dark brown beer. Softish palate, a bit dry. Rich malt with a slight dark feel. Not bitter. Very well balanced with rich dark fruit. Finishes with more dark character malt - almost coffee like. Light and dry.
Cask hand pull at GBBF. Dark and clear maroon. Aroma of caramel and subtle raspberry. Taste of spiced caramel. Nice. fiulijn (20427) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 12, 2009

Dark brown, almost black color. Sweet caramel aroma and sweet caramel flavor. There is also some nice hop and light yeast aroma, some chocolate flavor; smooth caramel brew, with a sweet caramel final, light fruitness, leaving a very pleasant trace of English hops. Very enjoyable.
Cask gravity at Pigs Ear 2008. Winner of the South East barley wine category. Black/dark ruby colour. OK dark fruit aroma. Oh dear, very alcoholic, doesn’t hide its strength at all. Drank this side by side with the Stumpys Drunken Dog and the Stumpys wins easily. Some choc. Shares a lot of characteristics with the Stumpys except the drinkability. Not exactly a barley wine, more of an English strong ale. Still its quite good. Dried fruit flavours, some hop sting.
