Tasted on 5/26/12 on draft at the brewpub. Pours hazy amber orange with a thin white head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is a nice blend of bready caramel malt, citrus hops, and spicy saison yeast. The flavor a very nice blend of the caramel, assertive citrus hops, and dry, spicy yeast. The body is medium minus with average carbonation and a long bitter hops and spicy yeast finish. Rustyham (1836) - St. Petersburg, Florida, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Thick strong sweet aroma of hibiscus, flowers, ripe tropical fruit, and malt. The color is a cloudy amber with a big fluffy head. the flavor starts out nice and flowery, light, but then becomes a bit sour and stings a bit. It has a slight chemical aftertaste with a hint of soap. Great at the beginning, but not so great at the end. I’m getting a bit of the onion hop flavor, too- kind of like Dale’s Pale Ale or Deviant Dale’s onion qualities. Still, it’s a pretty good beer, not necessarily a saison and not necessarily an IPA, I’d guess a simple Pale Ale flavor most defines this.
