UPDATED: NOV 10, 2014 Some chocolate in the aroma. Quite dark. Smoky also. This is a pretty interesting beer. Sticky, yet not cloying. Its a bit different but no in the same manner as other rye beers Ive had. Okay, not great. I type that sentence a lot about rye beer.

Draft pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma and taste are much the same roasted malt, coffee and cocoa.

(12oz bottle from RJ5020). Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma has some chocolate, spice, caramel, coffee. Taste is sweet with some spice and chocolate. Medium bodied and oily. A little bite on the finish. Pretty tasty stuff.

Clear red brown color with thin off white lacing. Great notes of chocolate and rye on the nose. The rye and chocolate come through in an interesting way on the palate making this a beer that would kick ass with some stew. Football, Fall, and this Beer.

Bottle from Sean - thanks! Pours dark but slightly transparent held to the light with only a ring of tan foam for a head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, slight ash, and a bit of an underlying gum note which I do not care for. Taste is minimal roast, slight chocolate, light and generic sweet malt, and some more of the gum off-flavor. There is some rye spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is watery. I was really excited about this beer and it was a let down all the way around.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Light roasted malty aroma with a light sweetness. The flavor has light roasted malts, some light rye malts, a hint of sweetness, and light floral hops. Decent.

(12oz bottled January thanks to Cavie) clearish ruby-brown with a creamy tan soapy head. Nose of rye, milk chocolate, and graham crackers. Taste of rye, cream, milk chocolate, and chocolate wafers. Huge flavor, body is near perfect, very creamy with a chocolatey finish.

12 oz bottle in trade with C. Bishop in tenn into half pints. Smells of some dark malts with a little vanilla caramel and coffee. looks almost black. light brown smallish head in half pint glass. Tastes like a lovely blend of dark malts over an and active palate thickness. some rye spices to enhance complexity. Overall 6.5 of 10.

Tasted on 9/22/11 from a 12oz bottle purchased at Midtown as a part of a Yazoo mixed 12 pack. Pours a nearly black dark brown with a thick light tan head that slowly recedes to thin, uneven lace. The nose is full of dark and creamy milk chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, and just a very light hint of spices that I associate with rye malt. The flavor is the same as the nose with the creamy milk chocolate, dark chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, rye spices, along with just a hint of vanilla. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and light vanilla finish.
