Rye in evidence here, as it should be. If you want rye in your beer, then give it a try. If not, stay away. Its common sense, really.

Light roast and some sharp grainy rye like black bread. Black pour with decent head. Bitter fibish. Some caramel. Bittersweet finish. Tap at brewery.

Not sure whats going on here, but this bottle pours one of the ugliest glasses of beer Ive seen in a while. Decent color, sure, but with a tiny head that disappears almost immediately and no lacing whatsoever. Looks kinda like flat Dr. Pepper. Not good. Smells better, with notes of chocolate and coffee, and the taste is okay, offering a good dose of cocoa-laced roasted malt and a slight cherry tang, Finishes with a modest mocha and peat-laced sweetness. Not picking up much rye, and the texture is in dire need of some antidepressants. Pass.

12oz bottle. Poured a little thin, Tootsie Roll brown with a smaller fizzy light beige head. Aroma of brown paper, stale chocolate, dust, cardboard, pudding skin. Flavor is the same plus a hint of rotting banana. Body is slightly thin, big bubble carbonation, quicker fading AT. Meh.....

12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer is a darker brown to black with a beige head of foam that dissipates at a moderate rate. The aroma has medium ashy roast and and some leathery sweetness. The taste is like the aroma, but I get more of an anise character than the aroma had indicated. Medium body and medium to higher carbonation.

On tap @ Yazoo. Pretty much black in color. Theres a nice bit of tan foam to it as well. Really nice chocolate and dark roasted malts here. Some hints of coffee, maybe a touch of smoke, and a slight spiciness. Molasses-like quality to the flavor along with a bit of bittersweet chocolate, toast, and toffee. Lightly earthy and some coffee. Its not too bitter nor too sweet. Pretty solid.

Refrigerated 12 oz. short brown bottle poured into a glass. Black with dark brow highlights and medium beige head. Aroma is nice dark malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is rich dark malt, milk chocolate, and hints of rye. Expected just average beer, but Yazoo delivers another good beer.
