The south is famous for smoking everything. Why not beer? Sue is a big, rich, smoky malt bomb of a beer, with mellow smokiness coming from barley malts smoked with cherry wood, and assertive bitterness from Galena and Perle hops to cleanse the finish.

12 oz, 64 degrees F in a snifter.

A - Pours black and a 2 finger tan head.

S - smoked malts and chocolate. Hint of raisins.

T - Campfire throughout. Hint of dark fruits, some sweetness but it’s a smoked beer UGH. not my cup of tea. It’s still pretty balanced.

M - Heavy body, medium carbonation

O - I wasn’t expecting much from this. I like the cherry but still..not my cup of tea.

355ml bottle at Matt's. Pours a very dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma is smoked and roasted malt notes. Taste is low ro moderately sweet with dark fruits and roasted malt. Good.

Brown colour, without a head. On the nose, it's quite smoky, like hickory or something. This has a fairly sticky sweet brown sugar/toffee sort of character. So definitely aiming for a barbeque sort of thing. Might be a bit thin on the palate, still with a lot of smoke, and then there's a bit of chocolatey burnt stuff as well. So it's not bad, but there are some issues.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is loaded with moderate smoke, with toasted caramel bready malt. Flavour brings out a nice campfire smoke, with light smoked meat and sweet caramel bready malt. Smoky and sweet on the finish. Very nicely done.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of toffee, slight dried fruits, slight sugary, slight bacon, light grapefruit. Taste is roast, mild to nearly none smoke, bacon, slight citrus. Decent

Dark black. Tan head. Smells like smoke. Tastes like sweet smokey BBQ sauce. I should have saved this for BBQ or jerky! Pretty smooth for a smokey beer. Bitter chocolate at the end. Thx Clownoisseur

My 3000th rating and I sadly put it in the hands of yazoo. Nose is lots of malt and light very light smoke. Taste has a yeast astringent flavor typical of yazoo. Burnt grain prominent. I chose this based on one of the highest ratings in Tennessee. This is proof don't trust the ratings. Many better smoke beers out there. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of soapy, tan head that dissipates. Aromas of dark chocolate, dates, brown sugar and freshly roasted coffee. More of the same on the palate with the coffee notes really standing out. As it warms, muted bacon and cured ham notes towards the finish. Good body, abv hidden well with a nice dry finish. Very nice.

appearance: dark cola brown, fluffy light beige head lingering into a thin collar. aroma: smoke, dark chocolate, vanilla, hint of brown sugar. taste: bittersweet dark chocolate, molasses, cola, a bit of meaty smoke. finish: smooth palate, on the lighter side for the abv; slight sourness on the finish, maybe a hint of cherry. notes: Drank almost like a smoked schwarzbier. Not bad. Palate was light, yes, but there was a creamy component too. Bottle from the House of Brews in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Smokier than downtown nashville brisket. Some caramel. Black pour with decent head and lacing. Bittersweet finish. Tap at brewery.
