3.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Again, those Yeastie Boys deliver. At first the nose from this lucious dark ale’s frothy head is slight, a bit of nutty malt and old leather, but once in the mouth it really hits home. Big rich chocolaty malt chased by tart fruitness, leaving a big long lovely mocha warmness. Further proof that "low" alcohol ale doesn’t mean low flavour. An excellent session ale.
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a slightly hazy copper with white lacing. Smells malty with notes of chocolate and nuts. Tastes less robust and a touch bitter (almost metallic). Average on the palate. Okay. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 20, 2014
Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Mostly clear kind of darker amber brown color. Kind of pale for a brown ale, right? Thin khaki kead. Leaves good, thicker lace. Nice nutty chocolate notes to the aroma. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Light to medium body. Smooth, kind of creamy, sort of chewy texture. Light carbonation. Lightly slick finish. Good bit of bright fruity hop deeper in. Tasty, flavorful, chewy brown ale. Great flavor and feel for the lighter ABV. Good longer nutty chocolatey malt aftertaste. Impressive. junon (430) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - APR 10, 2013
Wow. Interesting one. Had to confirm with bartender if it was what ordered. Hint of dried fruit right away. Cocoa powder with a dash of honey. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JAN 7, 2013
Draft at blue monk, buffalo. Lighter brown pour. Nutty aroma, light chocolate notes, toasted cereal. Nice flavor, nutty, light coffee & chocolate, some floral bitterness hidden. Good brown ale PhillyCraft (7225) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 13, 2012
Tap at Bainbridge St Barrel house. Pours a very light brown color, semi clearish. Body was very light as well. Taste is wood, nuts, sugar, mollases, light copper, and some funk. Not much hops present in taste. Taste like a barley wine not a brown and the body/appearence doesn’t add up. Very thin and kind of bland.

On tap at Hashigo, Nice colour looked darker than I expected but it is quite dark down there. Nice Caramel nose, a little grainy/worty but pretty good beer mkel07 (5963) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUN 9, 2012
On tap at The Spotted Cow. Poured more like a stout than a brown ale with a darker oil our than expected. Lots of caramel and nutty roasted malt with a bit of sweetness in the background. Jimthechap (2064) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 5, 2012
Golden brown with a white head that sat thinly but with some permanence on top of the beer. It has a certain walnutty malt character, but not as pronounced as I was expecting. This beer had a good fresh mouthfeel and was nicely balanced - not too sweet. Characters of marzipan, steamed pudding and dates grew the longer it sat on my tongue. This beer has good sessionability all over it and I wish there were more brown ales brewed in New Zealand for this reason.
