Pint at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a clear bright red purple with a medium sized pink head. The aroma and flavor have big red fruit character, the beets come through almost as berries, mild funk, herbal character, light bitterness, interesting brew.

Draft sample. Pours dark clear ruby color with an average frothy tan head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy cooked vegetable and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a interesting drinkable beer.

Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Brilliant clear red color, kind of pinkish (fuschia?). Nice thin pink head. Couple dots of lace. Cool nose, smells like some cherry in there. Thats all beet??? No way. Definitely get some beet, but its not what I expected. Kind of like a sweet cherry, and some vegetal beet. Pretty cool. Medium plus body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation with a dry finish. Light to moderate bitter taste, light sweet, pretty dry taste. Light hint of tart. Impressive, interesting stuff. As good as I could expect this kind of thing to be, I think. These Yeastie Boys people continue to impress me. Like ALLOVATE (who rated this just before me) said, not as spicy or belgian-yeasty as youd expect a saison to be, and I think thats a plus. Kind of more what youd expect a heavily beeted golden or pale ale to be like.

Cheers to Stu for sending us a bottle of this one. Love the label. Into a chalice just chilled. A pastel pink foam sits steady at around two inches in height. The body of beer a candy apple red and radiant in the lights. Big, fresh and ripe fruit filled nose leaning towards cumquat, mango and lychee, and a lot of orange blossom. More hops than not on the palate. APA comes to mind at first with its revering bitterness and piney, wood-chip finish. Lean bodied with a soft effervescence. Beetroot does play on the palate, lingering long between sips but it also yields an essence of beetroot leaves. Low to no malt. Supple fruit hints at the raw core of the fruit of the nose. Hits the olfactories well in the swallow. This is quite soft, or at least softer than I anticipated. But geez it is refreshing. Wouldnt go so far as call it a Saison, but a beeted pale ale or golden ale, yes. An approachable brew. Thanks Stu! (33cL, no date stamp)

rating from backlog, a strange and surprising beer given that the beetroot was easily detectable, points for uniqueness.

More fool me, I ordered this pint and forgot that I had had a chat with Stu about six weeks before and he mentioned something about beetroot. When the pint was put in front of me it was reddish-pink with a pink head. Its aroma and flavour veered toward gooseberry and kumquat, not toward the bleeding red amazeballs that the sight would suggest. As a pint it was fresh, tasty and quaffable and were it not for the full menu of beers on at Poms, I would have happily gone back for seconds. Apart from the colour of the pint, I found it a little staid, but that said, it beats the shot out of not having it.
