From a lineage of cryptic beer names... Hud-a-wa’ is Scots for "hold the wall" and was the nickname of one of our great-great-grandfathers. He was a strong fella who once held up a wall while his workmates escaped from a collapsing mine. He’d have approved of this strong amber ale: rich and restorative, yet with enough hop to keep you coming back for more. As Hud-a-wa’ would have said: "Here’s tae us, wha’s like us, damn few, and they’re a’ deid... mairs the pity!

Malt: Pale Malt, Crystal 90, Crystal 250, Pale Chocolate
Hops: Nelson Sauvin, NZ Styrian Golding, NZ Cascade, Pacifica
Yeast: London ESB

Suggested beer-pants colour match: Magenta (in a style that suits you)

BOTTLE. High carbonation pour, golden brown with huge fluffy white head.. Dark berries & malt aroma.. Big berry presence, fruit cake vibe, malt body complements these flavours.. Bottle at least 4 years old & I enjoyed it much more against "fresh".. Sourced Cellarbrations @ Capel

JoshRaburn (721) - - DEC 9, 2015
Strong- very hoppy ale. Strong malt aroma but not much malt taste. Hops are resinous and citrusy. Toffee and flowers on the nose. Not sweet like a scotch ale. But enough going on to keep it interesting.

colui72 (1159) - HONG KONG - OCT 11, 2015
Hazy brown with medium lasting cream head. Malty aroma and a totally sugarless taste. Malts and yeast are on the side of a massively bitter ale. Something is missing...

On tap In canberra. pale amber small head. hop aroma, unusual for a scotch ale. Sweet up front but with substantial hop bitterness. Big hop flavour. lots of dry hopping. more like an imperial ipa. I?m enjoying this but it?s SO far out of style!

Light haze on this orange - amber beer, decent cream colour head. Smooth palate, airy and a little dry. Moderate fine carbonation. Mellow dark malts, little creamy sweetness. Tangy ripe orange leading to mild marmalade. Trace of red berry fruits. Finishes with a little hop spice and a good dose of bitterness. Long strong bitter linger. Tasty.

jamestulloch (4423) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 26, 2015
Bottle from Cornelius. Murky ruby body with lots of yeast flecks floating around. Medium off-white head. Aroma of candy, orange and strawberry. Flavour of orange, juicy tomato and caramel biscuit. Faint spice. Thin body with an oily texture. Light fizz. Good flavour but it could with a bit more body.
