3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear, still amber with a creamy light-tan head. Aromas include caramel, chocolate, smooth malt and slight hop notes, very balanced. Quite clean on the palate, the strong malt biterness moves through to reveal caramel, milk chocolate, chestnut and roasted malt flavours, with a lightly hopped finish. Incredibly smooth and balanced, another gem from Yeastie Boys.
Milk chocolate malt, nice and obvious, slightly bready. Very slight hints of smoke on the nose...
Dry on the palate through the finish. Great, complex yet subtle flavours - some smoke in there too. DonBirnam (108) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 6, 2009
On tap at D4. Dark with a reddish brown tinge. Malty with balancing sweetness, followed by a caramel/choclate flavour. Has a nutty and slightly red berryish end. Very smooth and very nice. DuffMan (10433) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 2, 2009
On tap at the Invercargill brewery. Clear rusty brown with a low off-white cap. Lovely aromas and flavours of chestnuts and chocolate, with a beguiling fruity note. Modestly sweet with a short finish. There is decent body to this little mild brew, and most importantly, nice flavour. Well done indeed! nate2g (1548) - Boomtown!, AUSTRALIA - APR 11, 2009
Draught at Bar Edward, Wellington. Well I had a rushed sample at the Auckland Beer Fest so was stoked to find this available on tap during my travels. Pours a reddish brown with a small lingering white head. Sweet malt and light toasty notes. I let this one sit just so it could warm up slightly. Chocolate, nuts, fruit...the subtleties in this beer can be easily overlooked, and I’m happy I took my time with this one. Superbly balanced with just enough bitterness to keep me hooked. At such a low ABV this is easily one of the best session beers I’ve had in Oz/NZ. Cheers Yeastie Boys! nutpea (17) - , NEW ZEALAND - MAR 21, 2009
Oh what a great beer, this is all about the choc and i love it! I like different flavoured beers and this one pushes my buttons! Yay for yeastie boys and their mixing up the different types of beers!

Deep red-amber colour with a head that dissipated quickly. If it semlt of anything, it smelt of port (which I like). Good natural carbonation to keep it going, a mild and pleasant session beer. I don’t get the chocolate though. greig (253) - Hamilton, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 20, 2009
I finally got to wrap my laughing gear around Kid Chocolate last night. It did not disappoint. When cold, it’s a fairly dull, yet drinkable drop. As it warms, MAN does it open up. The Yeasties have done an amazing job packing so much complexity into 3.6% abv, and not ruining the sheer quaffability of this beer. As the name suggests, there is an abundance of chocolate character here, along with a delicate fruitiness and a nice nutty note. Hops are, as they should be in this style, all but absent, but do make themselves known with a gentle whisper of "go on, have another" bitterness. Those damn temptresses. I emptied my glass many times last night and feel great today.
The most fun part was the reaction of my drinking companions. "Oh, is that it?" they all said, in a disappointed tone after their initial tasting. Then, as it warmed, frowns became smiles and glasses were continually refilled.
Yeasties? You have another winner! snuffla (176) - Chch, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 17, 2009
2lt rigger from Pomeroys. Burnished red/brown in the glass. Mild nose of roasted malts. Subtle flavours of chocolate, malt, dark fruit and and surprisingly rich mouth feel. Nice balanced beer and great Autumn drinking donfardz64 (538) - Wellington, New Zealand, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 1, 2009
Hand pulled at the Liquorland Beer Festival. Mild aromas of roast malt. Malty bitterness, balanced with some sweetness, fades to mild chocolate. Hops show a wee bit at the end. Makes for a very mild flavoured session beer. One that I’d love to drink all night long. Nice work on this one guys!
