It’s been a while since I had one of these - but I thought I’d get in before the next in the series comes out. It’s one of my favourite beer styles, and the Invercargil brewed incarnation (as dispensed for the keg) was a knockout. KapitiCritique (379) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - SEP 5, 2010

Less assertive aroma than it’s NZ brother. More even bitterness, rounded mouthfeel and a lighter drier finish. Overall ibu’s feel a touch higher than Motueka. Maybe slightly more well rounded and not as intense. beerledgend (1196) - Waterloo, Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 26, 2010
Hazy orange colour with thick creamy white head. Subtile hoparoma. Big hop flavour which leavesbig hop residue in mouth leaving citirusy aftertaste. snuffla (176) - Chch, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 14, 2010
Some grapefruit pith and rind on the nose. Maybe a little muddly, but an American muddle so something like a Contra to Iran or a dabble into Honduras so its strikes a blow for freedom in a roundabout way.
Big and bitter and bruising, and its a one-day-i-love-it sort of beer, so I’m rating it halfway between that and the one-day-i-find-its-sister-hotter.
Finishes nice tho, not too malty sweet which can happen with these sorts of beers.
The sort of beer for a rainy day, or a sunny day, and several days in between. Cheers!

Crisp US hop dominates - almost to the point of astringency. Very clean crisp malt. donfardz64 (538) - Wellington, New Zealand, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 29, 2010
Pours golden, white head. Subdued grassy hop aroma.sdriessen (320) - Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 29, 2010
Intense bitterness hits with the first sip, moving into piny woody hop flavour. There’s no real sweetness here, just hops and more hops. The lack of any sweetness does make it a lot less drinkable than it’s brother monster.
Pours golden with a thin head that dissipates. Nice earthy hop aroma - smells crisp.
Flavours are full of the very distinguishable simcoe hops. The hops along with alcohol and carbonation makes this beer rather spicy.
Dry and bitter, like Motueka. Nice.
