3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bready chocolate aroma. Very soft on the palate. Balance is toward sweet. Nice beer soft delicate no big hops coming through but the chocolate slightly coffee Bready aroma and flavour comes through and it is good but not great. Then again just reading on the bottle best before Christmas 2014 so might have to go see the bottle store where I got this!
On tap at Scratch Bar April 2014. Glass of black goodness with a well balanced mix of maltiness and hoppiness. ShaneJ (903) - AUSTRALIA - DEC 19, 2014
Bottle from Beer Cellar online store (April 2013). Red-tinged black, small tan head, dry roast grain, golden syrup, piney hops, chocolate hints, some sweetness hiding behind a solid hop bitterness, medium body, long dry bitter finish. Very nice. Davros (3338) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 21, 2014
Pours black with a small light tan head.
Nose shows golden syrup, sweet syrupy English malt with toffee notes, very soft roast and light orange marmalade characters. Very English!
Roastier flavours, although a lot of the sweet remains. Golden syrup, plain roasted malt and some resinous and piny hops.
Carbonation is too high. ALLOVATE (3087) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 14, 2014
Produces up a radiant deepest ruby brown with a short lived beigish sud. Ooooh, different; a nose dominated by notes of citronella burning sticks, barbecued fatty sausage, pine cones, roasted carob and hints of clove and mace spice. Deeply nutty with a buttery rounded carob note that pretty much sums it up. Light in body and just on prickly in carbonation being frothy overall in mouthfeel. Chalky with low to no hop note to mention. Pretty average drinking to be brutally honest. Twiggy, piney aftertaste just saves it. Not adventurous at all and just on pleasant. Bottle from mane liquor. Pours a pitch black with a beige head. Nose is very tropical driven with roasted coffee and pine. Very fresh. Taste is upfront pine fruits with an ashy roasted coffee finish. Very roasty bitter finish. Pretty decent stuff. Happy with this one!

Pours a very dark brown, with a light tan head. Nose is lots of roast, burnt toast, raisin, rum. Flavor is very roasty. Lots of caramel, coffee. I’m not getting much hop character, almost at all. There’s a slight bit of citrus on the late palate, and just a hint of lemon peel on the finish. But the roast flavors vastly outweigh the hops in this one. Tasty, but not really a black IPA. hawthorne00 (4190) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 9, 2014
Bottle. Almost black with a beige head. Aroma of mocha, oranges, gooseberries, licorice. Carbonation is quite low and it’s silky textured. Sweet and chocolaty with fruity bursts and firm bitterness. Probably lost some sparkle, but is still really good. maneliquor (3514) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 1, 2014
Bottle from Mane Liquor. A very similar nose to the original PKB - loads of roasted coffee, tropical fruit and pine with a pleasing toasted marshmallow note. Taste starts off with heavy tropical fruit before it slowly turns to silky coffee and an ashy finish. Touch muddled on the end and a little thin with not much of a finish or length to it. The base for a good beer but not quite coming together. Still has some decent taste to it. Solid Pdubyah (833) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 14, 2014
Its difficult drinking a dark beer that should be one thing to get a hoppy beer that should be another. This is a showcase of hops and you have a range and palate to pick from, lots of grass and bitterness, I got no head but I got nice lacing. I think I liked it, I’ve to be convinced on anything. Nice? yes it is, Go again ? yeah, na.....
