Launched 2008 as a 5.2% abv beer. Changed to 6% in 2009.
NZ & rest of the world brewed at Invercargill Brewery. UK & Europe brewed at Brewdog, Aberdeenshire.
A juxtaposition of styles: fresh and hoppy, yet dark and rich. Mindbendingly delicious.
2009 release information:
Winter 2009 sees the return of Yeastie Boys much loved debut beer - New Zealand’s original ’Black IPA’. This year’s vintage is built upon the same malt base as the original but has fired up the ’chocolate and orange character’ with more NZ Cascade hops and a zesty fistful (or 10) of imported Styrian Goldings. At 6.0%abv and 50ibu it is rich, hoppy and way too drinkable.
2008 release information:
The first seasonal release from the newest kids on the local craft beer block. ’Pot Kettle Black’ is an unusually hoppy rich and robust porter balancing the delectable dark malt flavours of traditional porter with fruity hop characteristics usually associated with modern craft pale ales. The result is a rare beer indeed: moreish, nutritious and delicious.
Tech info: ABV = 5.2%, OG = 1061, IBU = 47.
Ingredients: Malt: NZ Pale Malt, Melanoiden Malt, Crystal 55L, Pale Chocolate, Black Patent Malt. Hops: Nelson Sauvin, New Zealand Styrian, New Zealand Cascade (organic, to please the brewing gods).

Bottle at dB’s. Poors black with medium tan head. Hoppy nose. Big sweet deep roasted malts, marijuana hoppy. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium body, creamy soft feel and big roasty and marijuna finish. Nice hoppy toffee.

Pretty hop forward, edging toward black IPA territory. Roasty chocolate body with a fresh hop kick. Bit thin bodied...

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2016 Porter uit Nieuw Zeeland. Vrij droog en bitter en weinig zoet. Beetje flauw qua smaak, zelfs beetje waterig. Niet bepaald mijn ding.

berkshirejohn (6611) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 3, 2016
33cl bottle from Marks & Spencer, Camberley. A glossy black pour with a thin beige head; fruity aroma with some licorice; tropical fruit taste with a smooth grainy body; giving a peaty licorice taste; and an interesting combination of mango and licorice to finish. An interesting blend of styles.

redders1974 (1578) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - JUN 27, 2016
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2017 Liked this a cross between a porter and a bipa dark brown thin tan head coffee roastiness hints of tropical fruits really smooth mouthfeel.
