COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Can, bottle, and keg: Filtered
Launched 2008 as a 5.2% abv beer. Changed to 6% in 2009.
NZ & rest of the world brewed at Invercargill Brewery. UK & Europe brewed at Brewdog, Aberdeenshire.
A juxtaposition of styles: fresh and hoppy, yet dark and rich. Mindbendingly delicious.
2009 release information:
Winter 2009 sees the return of Yeastie Boys much loved debut beer - New Zealand’s original ’Black IPA’. This year’s vintage is built upon the same malt base as the original but has fired up the ’chocolate and orange character’ with more NZ Cascade hops and a zesty fistful (or 10) of imported Styrian Goldings. At 6.0%abv and 50ibu it is rich, hoppy and way too drinkable.
2008 release information:
The first seasonal release from the newest kids on the local craft beer block. ’Pot Kettle Black’ is an unusually hoppy rich and robust porter balancing the delectable dark malt flavours of traditional porter with fruity hop characteristics usually associated with modern craft pale ales. The result is a rare beer indeed: moreish, nutritious and delicious.
Tech info: ABV = 5.2%, OG = 1061, IBU = 47.
Ingredients: Malt: NZ Pale Malt, Melanoiden Malt, Crystal 55L, Pale Chocolate, Black Patent Malt. Hops: Nelson Sauvin, New Zealand Styrian, New Zealand Cascade (organic, to please the brewing gods).

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a clear dark orangey brown with a beige head. Sweet subtle roasty nose. Medium body, sweet roastiness, a little licorice and some late bitter hops. The bitterness starts kinda subtle but grows on you. Very pleasant drinking. 080911

Bottle drank at Hill Farmstead while waiting for the Harvest Festival VIP session to begin, Vermont. Pours rich black with a big, staying tan cream head. Dusty cocoa nose, light roast, wet dirt (i.e. mud...). Medium sweet flavor, lots of dirty roast, earthy bitterness, light ash, a bit of moderate dark chocolate. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Medium sweet finish with dry roast, good ash, light baking cocoa, earth. A slow starter, but quite robust and nuanced by the end.
