A celebratory beer by Yeastie Boys. They said it couldnt be done, that it would be undrinkable and, to be fair, many of them still do... But we like to do our own thing. This one-off batch of imperial-strength Rex Attitude is a self-indulgent celebration of being awarded the Morton Coutts Trophy for Innovation at BrewNZ 2011. Dedicated to all the peat freaks who have let us know how much they enjoy Rex: your love helps us through the hate - thank you.

Pours a golden haze. Massive nose of smoked meats turning to medicinal. Drinks with some sweetness and a lot of smokiness. Very little of anything else. Insanely peaty, maybe more than needed. It's a lot to take in, but an experience in drinking

Pours a fairly pale golden appearance with note head or carbonation. Punch in the face peat, medicinal, burnt rubber, yet so so good. Like sitting at an open fire, eyes water from the smoke. Slight hints of fruit under the blanket of peat, apricot and grapefruit. Drinks like a nice full bodied ale, slightly sweet and malty. The peat does not over power the palette, a nice juicy beer with good stone fruits and jammy sweet malts. A good hop spice with a nice cognac like alcohol warmth. The finish is nicely smokey, like a smooth cigar. A doughy sweetness mellows the alcohol and peat, with a hint of grassy spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2014 Light amber, white head. Crazy smell of smoke and peat, resembling smoked meat and cheese (ricotta affumicata!). Taste starts surprisingly sweet and quickly develops into a smoke and peat fest. Very light final bitterness. Aftertaste is very similar to a whisky one but without only a gentle warming from the alcohol. Unique beer.

Bottled. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma has loads of peated ashtray. Slightly hazy, copper coloured beer with a thin head. The taste is a bit sweet, light hoppy, massive ashtray. Cool experiment, but will not be my favourite Yeastie Boys beer.

Buonissima produzione neozelandese, dove i sentori di wisky sono ben presenti e la nota torbata la fa da padrone. Buon equilibrio.

pretty phenomenal, was a bit worried about this going in as i dont like whiskey but it turned out to be a fantastic smoked beer, predominantly smoked cheese. very tasty and surprisingly easy to drink.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours a deep golden orange with a finger of fading head. Huge smoked peat nose with earthy and apricot flavours. Bit of caramel too. Smells like a glass of talisker. Flavour is vastly different to the nose: massive apricot and caramel sweetness. Nose makes you anticipate a smoky flavour but its actually very sweet. Nice light smoky finish. Shared between three, probably wouldnt have another glass; very rich, saturated sweet smoke. Points for uniqueness.
