COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A celebratory beer by Yeastie Boys. They said it couldn’t be done, that it would be undrinkable and, to be fair, many of them still do... But we like to do our own thing. This one-off batch of imperial-strength Rex Attitude is a self-indulgent celebration of being awarded the Morton Coutts Trophy for Innovation at BrewNZ 2011. Dedicated to all the peat freaks who have let us know how much they enjoy Rex: your love helps us through the hate - thank you.

Poured a lightish golden colour with a fairly quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is intense to say the least, very smoky, peaty, whisky, some cured meats? A bit of ash in there as well. Peat flavours dominate, but there is some residual sweetness. Nice bubbly palate and light body keeps the intense flavour from becoming bogged down. Really different, strange at first, liked it in the end!

Wow , this is one of those beers, which I haven't especially enjoyed, but would cheer to the end. So intense, it's just peat, peat ,peat. I love peaty whisky, it's still too intense for me . But try it, just once !

This is the worst beer i have ever tasted. Only try if your primary diet consists of used monster truck tyres and burning apartment blocks

The aroma isn’t something I’m a fan of I really though it was soapy, and it puts a flat whiskey brown. The taste on the other hand, gorgeous, soft sweetness under a sharper bitterness and a lingering of peaty matly smokiness. That’s rather nice that is.

Bottled 330ml (Beer Republic, BB 10/2018 batch 6)

A bit hazy amber color, small white head. Strong nose has smoke, peat ... whisky. Medium to full-bodied. Front is overriped fruits then berries, peat, smoke and hops. Quite restless but interesting.

Smells like burning tires with iodines. Massively peaty mouth with so much burnt rubber. Just way over the top islay whiskey

I can’t rate as my bottle had clearly become infected - strong smell & taste of TCP. Sounds like a few others on here have experience the same thing.
Pretty sure the Boys never intended it to taste like this!

330 ml bottle. BB Oct/18. Thanks Kiwi-Timo!

Cloudy golden color with a small off-white head.
Peat, smoke, mild spices and malt in the aroma.
The flavor is smoke, dryness, peat, malt and some sweetness.
Smooth and tasty.

33 cl bottle @ Timo A. BBE 10/2018.

Pours clear golden color with a small head. Not as strong peaty aroma as was with the Rex, malty, faint caramel, some earthy tones. Flavor is malty, moderately peaty, some subtle toffee, maybe faint bready tones. Deceptively drinkable.

0,33l fles gedeeld met lion. Bruin met een bescheiden witte kraag. geur en smaak totaal in de ban van de rook. bacon leukoplast en een berg zoute drop. Trekt mooi droog weg en is heerlijk vol. Topper!

10%ABV. Smoked ale.

Poured out cloudy amber. 12 SRM.

Nose is smoky with aromas of wax paper, candle wax, plasticine, silly putty. After much soul searching, the aroma of Band Aids comes to mind.

Mouthfeel is thick and juicy. Palate also has some funk to it with a plasticine flavor, there is also a strong medicated plaster, bandaid flavor. Smoke is not wood smoke, but more peaty and earthy. Alcohol hits hard in the middle of the palate and slides very nicely into the other bitter flavors of the hops which are resinous and charcoal bitter.

Overall, what stands out about this beer for me is the motor oil-like, plasticine, peat, mud and earth flavors. Good if you like deep earthy flavors. Not so much for me.
