This Imperial Amber Ale stands on its own, but was designed to complement the aroma of a fine cigar. A combination of German Vienna and American 2-Row malts provide a notable backbone and an initial flavor reminiscent of vanilla. The beer is then dry-hopped twice to finish with an herbal character.

This beer has a really good balance of the malt and hoppy. It isn’t too heavy, which makes it a decent choice for warm weather.

Bottle: (9.4% on label) Cloudy, brown, with a small beige head. Woody, caramel aroma. Caramel malt, nuts, leafy taste. A bit of alcohol dryness and an herbal/woody bittering. Not bad...surprisingly smooth with just a little boozy heat at the finish.

Aggiebob (1219) - Huntsville, Alabama, USA - SEP 26, 2016
Taproom draft. Ruby red in color poured with a thin off-white lace ring. The aroma is muted with some herbal and caramel notes in the taste. Moderately bitter. A little thick on the tongue.

Draft at the brewery. Pours clear ruby copper with a fizzy beige head. Tastes like dried fruits, booze, cherry, and woody malt. Medium body and carbonation. Smells like dried fruits, cherry, booze, and woody malt.

Suttree (6466) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 21, 2016
Reddish brown, thin beige foam. Smells like caramel, and a bit boozy. Very heavy, rich mouthfeel. Taste is sweet, lots of caramel and toffee, then some rum, boozy notes. Woody, hoppy finish.

12 oz. Mostly clear copper with a lasting thin film of foam. Nose is sourish tangerine, earthy toffee and dark bread. Flavors are the same mix with some green herb and toasted grain on the finish. Medium-plus body has smooth, near-medium carbonation and seems to have a nod to some peat-smoked malts. I’m not a cigar smoker, but I feel as though I should be after this one.

Iphonephan (7088) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - DEC 5, 2015
From a 13 oz bottle poured at home. Pours a cloudy amber with an ecru head. Nutty aroma. Malty flavors. Bitter finish.

drowland (8895) - Georgia, USA - JAN 31, 2015
1/30/15. Amber pour, small khaki head, mild lacing. Caramel on the aroma, a biscuit aspect, that’s about it. The flavor follows suit, sweet caramel and bread, a touch of astringent bitterness coming through. Meh.

edgallow (4312) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 5, 2014
Draft sampler pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of malts, spice, floral and pine. Taste is nutty, mrs and resin.
