Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2016 Can on the train back from Norwich, 21/11/16. Cola brown with an initial decent tan head of bubbles that eventually prickle away and dissipate leaving a rather tired looking beer. Nose is cocoa powder, sweet malts, toasted brown sugar, dark fruit dusting. Taste comprises chocolate biscuit, trace of liquorice, light charr, soy sauce, toffee. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a light hop tingle. Sub par porter.

Pours a deep brownish black from the can with fluffy tan brown head that leaves good lace. Aroma of earthy soy under mild roast. Taste has more of the roast and less of the oxidation, nice mild chocolate tones and fruity yeast. Solid porter.

5%ABV. Porter. Tapped out black brown. 34SRM. Im guessing here because when it comes to the darker end of the spectrum I start to become less confident about color. Nose has smoke and the tang of ripe stone fruit. The smoke and slightly fruity sour of a porter is for me invariably reminiscent of curing tobacco with the sour smoky tang. Mouthfeel is watery. Palate has tons of dry ume, but without having the physical quality on the palate of being dry. There is woodsmoke, and burnt toast, black bread. Not much fruit in the palate, almost closer to the stout end of a darkly roasted grain beer.
