330ml can. Almost black, big fluffy golden-beige head stays, leave lacing. Aroma is chocolatey, mildly roasty, sweet. Taste is bittersweet, some tart, mildly roasty, some chocolate and hops in aftertaste. Thin body, average carbo, very easily drinkable. Cask. Black in colour. Roast malts (dark bitter chocolate, espresso coffee, liquorice). Fruity (berries and dark fruits). Smooth, full-flavoured, full-bodied. Slightly sour with underlying bitterness. Good malt/hop balance. Dry roasty fruity finish. Liked this. Super pint! (2008)

(Can) Black colour with dense, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee, black rye bread, chocolate, liquorice and hints of smoke. Roasted, malty taste with coffee, black rye bread, chocolate, some ashes, liquorice and a balanced, roasty bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced porter. Nice one.

I had this ages ago and no idea why I did not rate it then. This is a lovely black beer with a gorgeous tan head, with an aroma of too much coffee, doesn’t do much to me that smell. Flavour is super nice, with dark chocolates, ashes, tobacco, vanilla. Sweet, sour, dry, biter, a bit like the Murphy’ Stout. Very creamy and velvety on the palate. Very dark brown with a taller, dense, dark tan head. Pale and toasted to roasted malt aromas. Sweeter start with malted milk and lightly roasted grains. Hints of dark chocolate. Darker grained bread in the finish. Linger is lightly dry and a bit lactic. 6/11

Poured a reddish brown with tan bubble head that dispersed. Nose is cocoa, dark malt and sugar. Taste is a weakish chocolate Cocoa Brown sugar mix. Bit flat and no real body.

Cola brown with an initial decent tan head of bubbles that eventually prickle away and dissipate leaving a rather tired looking beer.
Nose is cocoa powder, sweet malts, toasted brown sugar, dark fruit dusting.
Taste comprises chocolate biscuit, trace of liquorice, light charr, soy sauce, toffee.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a light hop tingle.

Keg, Ant n Bee, Tokyo. Pours black with a brown head subsiding average. Scentless. Taste is light lactose and light toasted malt and notes of grain. Light overall. Finish is dense, grainy, and smooth. Great.
