Clear medium to dakr black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, moderate hoppy, english licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (010508)

Cask at GBBF 2006. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet alcoholic combined with notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol and chocolate, leading to a roasted end, which also has notes of the alcohol lingering. Cask @ GBBF 2007. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Roasted malty licorice aroma with some hoppy hints. Roasted malty licorice flavor with some hints of caramel and hops. Roasted malty finish with some hoppy hints in the aftertaste.

Rerate fom JDW Foot of the Walk Edinburgh ...Black with a Tan head ... Very light roast malt ... Sweet malty fruit ... loads of milk Chocolate and some sweet liquorish... I take back my lack of complexity. Having had a bigger sample. This is quite complex and a wonderfully smooth drinkable flavour. 3.8 -> 4.3

Dark amber, almost black colour, bubbly brownish head, which vanishes quite quickly. Aroma is mildly roasted malts, some hoppy hints as well as slight caramel touch. Flavour is quite the same but has more spicyness and licorace.
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2009 Canned (as Shinsyu Porter). Very black with rocky beige head. Appley roasty nose. Fairly sweet and medium bodied with dense mouthfeel. Oily with soy sauce, very roasty with plenty of coffee and dark chocolate. Finishes with cocoa bitterness.
